Sauber to race with Alfa Romeo branding next year

They're be using 2018-spec Ferrari engines, as opposed to the year-old engines they used this year, plus with a big cash injection from the Alfa Romeo branding, we should expect them to make a big push into the mid-feild next year.

Torro Rosso will be using Honda engines, and as Honda still seem to be running around like headless chickens, with another personnel shuffle and no signs of any immediate improvement, it looks like the Torro Rosso pair could be fighting it out for the wodden-spoon.

McLaren will be racing with Renault engines, so it'll be interesting to see if they can make some steps forward. Williams will be racing their first car designed under Paddy Lowe (former Mercedes) so they also might be worth keeping an eye on.

What's new for 2018?

https://www.formula1.com/en/championshi ... anges.html

After the rules revolution of 2017 – one that saw F1 cars become wider and faster – this season’s changes are relatively few in number. That doesn’t mean, of course, that they aren’t important – and some will be very obvious indeed…

SUMMARY

Technical regulations:
- T-wings and shark-fin style engine covers outlawed
- halo cockpit protection device mandatory
- suspension systems that could alter the car’s aero performance over a lap not allowed

Sporting regulations:

- drivers allowed three rather than four power units per season
- simplified grid penalties for power unit changes
- wider range of dry tyre compounds

IN DETAIL - Technical.....................>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

Thought I'd post the results of the last race for all to see (especially as I did particularly well...).

Well done JJ for getting the new season's yellow hat - I hope to be wearing it at some point this year.

I messed up a bit this weekend as it was my birthday yesterday, and with all the excitement of being a year older I completely forgot to do my picks. Never mind, I think it may work in my favour as I've done a mini re-hash of the qualifying positions.

Thank you BG. Being a kid at heart we went to the cinema and watched Peter Rabbit (a throw-back from my wonderful childhood). Laughed all the way through - a fabulous film for people of all ages.

Good luck with your predictions for today's race.

As Pete is taking a sabbatical, I'll take over posting the league tables for now.

Well done Parahandy, for getting the highest score for the race and now leading the cumulative leader board.

Biggest climber this week is pharvey, and biggest loser is RZR (those early bird points do help quite a bit).

FP2: Ricciardo fastest as Red Bull show Baku form

https://www.formula1.com/en/latest/head ... -form.html

If you were unsure about Red Bull’s pace in Baku, FP2 should have certainly put those doubts to bed. The opening session saw Daniel Ricciardo narrowly trail Valtteri Bottas’ Mercedes, but this time the Australian proved to be the pacesetter - though Kimi Raikkonen was hot on his heels less than a tenth of a second behind.

So Hamilton wins, or rather Vettel lost! Verstappen should be BANNED from ALL F1 races, idiot!

Very lively and entertaining race.

Totally agree about Verstappen. He's a young guy, with a lot of talent, unfortunately he's inherited his father's arrogance. I'm a Ricciardo fan, and, in my opinion, he's the best over-taker on the track - I was mortified when Verstappen did the double swerve to his team mate. Red Bull are going to have to get rid of Verstappen if they want Ricciardo to stay with them next season.

What a race, though! I normally doze off mid-way, but stayed awake for the full race with all the action going on.

(Really want to go to Baku. What a beautiful city. Mr. VS and I are already talking about a Caspian Sea adventure next year...)
