I was thinking more about banging music, pissed up farangs and smoking in the non air conditioned places.
In January we where in Murphs lunch time and there was this young family in there with a two year old lad having a great time playing around.

Hi Mags, I did put a link to the thread on here where the owner of said place exposed Richard's lying, and it's based purely on his own words in his posts, there's no heresay or reading between the lines by me with this. Richard is welcome to put me straight if he likes. And the reason I mentionnned it is because it is totally relevant (imo anyway) to his 14no. posts (that a quick search just turned up) where he has repeatedly hammered this particular place claiming everything from their food being 'dodgy' (before he'd even ate there the first time), the owner being 'stupid', 'not giving a to$$ about customers', people being 'ripped off' and 'conned' through to their previous place being 'a bar for losers'... which you ripped into him about yourself if you can recall (it was a couple of years back mind). If there's any shred of doubt by anyone that this is nothing other than a personal grudge then consider this... previous to his visit the other morning Richard by his own admission has only EVER eaten or drank there TWICE, in Feb & May 2008 and both times he reported the food and service to be good, no problems at all... yet he's been slamming the place ever since!!

I know the history very well so thought it's worth bringing to readers attention. It's just a personal grudge dating back 3 years and it stems from his efforts to promote his mates place (something the forum temporarily banned him for I think) that was across the road at the time and to damage this place, example... "waited so long in the queue to get into Murphy place (ha ha 80% full, more like 2%) so wandered across road to Lord Nelsons. Best curry in town." ....Who laughs at a place for being empty in a recession, is this the 'honest critique' Richard now talks about. The forum and it's readership are insignificant pawns to be used to satisfy his grudge, I know I'm not everyone's cup of tea on here a lot of the time which I fully accept, but at least I'm totally honest about what I say and don't make stuff up in an attempt to damage others' businesses to benefit a friend's business.

Here's some examples of why I don't think readers should take his criticisms seriously, all quotes from Richard's posts on the forum:
- 2007 June: "El Murphy's I've heard is dodgy. Personal experience of sitting there waiting 20 minutes for a beer"
- 2008 Jan 5th: "Many good steaks around depends on personal preferences. BB's or SJ's excellent, El's bootleather"

Both above were before he'd even ate there, and when pulled on the above...
- 2008 Jan 21st: "Your either pissed or confused, you got the wrong person. Never had to wait more than 2 minutes for a drink anywhere & don't know anything about your food"

- 2008 Feb: Ate there last night. Didn't meet boss as seemed to spend all his time on computer didn't seem to care about revenue earning customers
- 2008 May: El Murphy's last night. Had a fillet mignon with garlic butter sauce. Steak was tender although I prefer my steak rarer.
... before this pearler a few months later...
- 2008 Dec: Got your quotes mixed up, obviously touched a nerve. Do your research properly next time. Can't possibly slag your bar off never been there.

- 2010: "Few years back I fell out with Eddie. Not tried his steak" ... 'fillet mignon' obviously not that memorable then Rich?

Honesty costs nothing Richard, and we're not all as stupid as I look.

Just went to El Murphy's for the first time--partly sparked by this thread and the commentary on their good breakfasts.

Service: Quite passable. The place was almost empty, and this is normally when you get the WORST service in Thailand, but they took care of us well, served us quickly, knew the menu, and made no errors. A definite 5* on the service.

Food: Not impressed. It wasn't horrible by any stretch of the imagination, it was decent, but I expected more. The sausages were undercooked (Black on the outside, pink in the middle) they didn't even ask how we wanted our eggs cooked--fried Sunny-Side-Up it was--don't object too much to that myself, but not happy feeding a sunny-side-up egg to a 3 year old. The portion WAS huge, but honestly have had several better breakfasts out in Hua Hin--actually, I think it's the worst that I've had so far (Which means Hua Hin is pretty high-quality on the breakfast front) I'd definitely put it behind Terrace 90, Best Bean, and Victoria. Food: 3*

The Bill: Correct, all accounted for, and thanks for the heads-up on the tax--No surprises there. 4* (Only because I don't like the tax-added-later methodology--I prefer an honest, up front price)

BCR

What sort of prices did you pay for brekkie at these places??...Was there a vast difference in price and did that reflect the service you got. I have no idea how much these places charge....particularly interested in Terrace 90's price as it looks very nice but no price list on their website.

Cheers

Don' know murf very well although for 6-7 years now. Must say I have never had bad service or food on the occasions I have visited. My uncle visits a couple of times a year and is an almost daily visitor without complaint. The only reasons I do not go out for breakfast often in town is that there are places within walking distance of my house that do a decent breakfast if I cannot be bothered to cook it myself. Someone asked about price? 120-250 depending on location and size. 120 will get you 2 sausage, bacon, 2 eggs, fried bread or toast, mushrooms and tomatoes with a mug of tea or coffee. If you want beans, fried spuds, black pudding etc you are looking at a bit more obviously. Made myself hungry now.

Don't worry about it

I'm going the Baa Baa. route. One liners or PM's. Can't be arsed with the winging nit pickers

To those that may be slightly confused........post what thou wilt, of course.....but if you are passing judgement on other people's businesses that affect livelihoods/business etc, especially on a public forum, then you should be prepared to get some 'blow-back' or some dissent from those that may not agree with your judgement, as many view things differently......don't be a sensitive old woman.

It is worth having a reasonable response to any foreseen negative replies before you post and to not be gob-smacked when someone replies with a different tune.

I'm not saying that I am some shinning example of this but I try to consider it first, not always successfully, but do give it some forethought.......guess it depends on your motivation for originally posting.

Critiquing restaurants (for whatever reason) requires you to be completely neutral in all aspects, and in the entirety of it all is going to earn you some slagging comments as people view food, and it's importance/quality etc, very differently.

As far as the one-liner replies go....well....think we have enough of that already, try not to add to the problem (no-one singled out BTW). Try some substance.............say what you think and back it up with some reasonable argument, if you dare or have the capability...........:|

Ok I've been down Market Village this afternoon and splashed out on this new audio-cassette educational program that Richard pm'd me about. I've just finished listening to it and it went a little summit like this.... and don't ask me because I don't know why but it's like that and that's the way it is huh!! (bonus point for the track...)

It's entitled:
