Friday night Blues @ Souay Vista - the joint was jumpin'! Absolutely packed !! Guests included a new guy, Brian ('bozzman') on guitar (the man's not bad at all!), Ton singing, Willem (singing & harmonica), Uri on
the bass, and (ahem) myself singing particularly well (everybody says so)!
We'll have some more outside tables and chairs for next week -- that's a promise.

Last night (Saturday) was pretty good for a quiet night. Yo played a good long set of his exquisite
'sweet and mellow' stylings with the acoustic guitar and what a wonderful singing voice this guy has!!
A little bit of second guitar and violin accompanied him for a part of it. A Norwegian musician friend,
Per, came along to jam and carry on for bit - that was great. And another new friend, Jake did some
very good singing from his chair -- he'll get onstage next time!

Friday was a cracker, always fun when a lot of people show up, the energy level gets to everyone! Only downside was that the little diet I am on made a burger out of the question! :thumb:

D7 @ SV

Post by Souay Vista »

Sunday night @ SV - D7 played. And did they ever!!! With a very small house (15-20 people) the place still rocked! It was a bit of a Birthday party for one of the bands' regular members (when they play at the Hilton they're a group of 7) so one of the main groups of people were wife/girlfriend/long-time fans and friends of the band. At various times there were James, Andrea, and Shane (the 2 women members) up singing some wonderful soul/funk/motown music - then suddenly a beautiful ballad ('True Colors') with 2 part harmonies, then back into rockin' dance stuff (we cleared tables aside). At one point Shane sang a fantastic performance of 'Shook Me All Night Long' (amazing song for a woman to do!) Then Jake got up and did a respectable rendering of 'Mustang Sally'...
There was some incredibly high-octane magic going on and so many of our regular patrons missed it!!
Do try to come next week -- you will not regret it!!!

Suay Vista (on soi 94) new menu

Post by Albertodelgado »

So I went by to Suay Vista on soi 94 last night because they have really good live blues music on Fridays. I was talking to the owner, a very cool cat named Paul, and he was telling me that they are about to launch a new menu. They brought some new F&B manager that is cooking up some pretty interesting Asian Fusion food. They showed me the menu and it looks pretty good. They told me that it should be up and running by the end of next week. I recommend people to go there, its a really cool place that always has cool live music. I'm sure the new menu will only add to the experience.

Waltzes & Tangos @ Souay Vista

Post by Souay Vista »

I've not done much violin playing of late - just pulling it out now and again for some occasion like a party. On Sunday night we were to have D7 play, but they got boonswaggled into some obligation at the Hilton. Our French friend Jean Paul came in with his electric accordion - it has all the bells & whistles like karaoke, midi interface etc etc - so he hooked it up and he put the music (3cm thick binder) on the stand and asked if I would read the stuff with him. (The last time he was in, I let him read the tunes while I improvised a 2nd part - and 'sasheyed' among the patrons, yukking it up and acting like an idiot...) The music was linked to a kind of 'gipsy band' karaoke acccomp - great stuff! It was a pretty quiet night - 8 people stayed to listen, and 4 left. We read for 2- 3 hours -- Waltzes, Tangos and Polkas mostly - it impressed the hell out of everybody!

Always a surprise @ Souay Vista!!

Paul, Barry and The Republic of Music

Post by Farang »

Various sources list there being 193 to 206 independent countries in the world.
These lists very obviously are compiled by some sour, moldy bureau owl as they
never, ever list the richest, happiest, most powerful and influential country of them all:
The Republic of Music.

There are those happy individuals permanently residing in The RoM and there
are expats residing there part-time. Everyone of us has visited there occasionally
and have returned to our mundane existence outside The RoM much invigorated,
happy and relaxed, always planning yet another trip.

Hua Hin in one of the fortunate cities with Permanent Embassy of The Republic of Music.
It is located at Souay Vista with Paul as the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary.
Visiting the embassy of The RoM gives everyone a first-hand experience of the joys and
pleasures of The RoM.

Last night, on St. Patricks Day, The RoM and the Republic of Ireland Admiral of the Green,
Barry, joined forces to go a-roving upon the waters of Pak Nam Pran, on the river and on
the high seas, to bless the environ with Irish airs, ballads, ditties, hymns, jigs, reels,
shanties and songs. The good ship Sun Cat 1 was filled to scuppers with Republic of Music
natives and visitor all enjoying the music, the communal singing and truly exquisite cooking.
The general consensus was that due to Barry’s Iris Stew all the sins and transgressions
of all the Irish are now forgiven.

To enjoy the blessings of The Republic of Music visit Souya Vista. You owe it to yourself.

Diverse live music in a relaxed bar of a passionate musician

Post by osten »

Just wanted to put in my 2 cents regarding Souay Vista.

My wife and I live in Bangkok, but own a well-known bed and breakfast guesthouse in Hua Hin. As such, we typically drive down one or two weekends every month. It's a nice little getaway from the city and I like the relaxed style. However, until I discovered Souay Vista, one thing lacking was a diverse selection of QUALITY live music to chill out at night.

After meeting Paul (the very friendly Canadian proprietor), he explained they feature a diverse range of musical types on nearly every night of the week. The night we were there, they featured a very talented Filipino band doing covers of (mostly) classic rock. What I enjoyed is the band did not do the same ol' tunes you normally hear in most bars...they did some unusual songs. Now, I also want to go back to check out the Blues night as well.

Perhaps what makes the place so interesting is that Paul himself is a passionate musician, so it lends the place a special flavor that would not otherwise be felt if he was only interested in running the business to make money.

I'm back in Hua Hin as I write this review right now, so I plan to head over there tonight and tomorrow to see what's on the musical venue. Music lovers, do yourselves a favor and check out the best live music offering in Hua Hin...hands down.

I know Eddy quite well as I use to stay in a guest house opposite a venue where his band use to play on a weekend near soi 55. He was long term friends with an employee at the guesthouse and I got to know them. He use to be the vocals and drummer at the same time, but they now have a femal for the vocals. He is a good guy and the band is really quite good as well.

Their website is still active, but doesn't appear updated since 2010. Drop them an email and see what happens. Maybe the MIB found them and started looking for work permits for the casual performers? Pete
