I second about the cookies. They have chocolate chip or oatmeal raisin, about 12cm in diameter and cost 60 Baht each. I imagine you're getting 600+ calories with one of those monsters, but damn good! :D

We'll have breakfast tomorrow morning at the star bucks. Perhaps We'll check the free wi-fi than at the moment we're having wifi at the pool of our hotel :)

I wonder what would it cost to set up a wifi with enough power to provide a strong signal right across the entire Bintablock area?

Would probably need a weatherproof rooftop antenna on an obliging building in the area.

No secret passwords or fees perhaps, but a page of sponsors ads to peruse for a few seconds before you can log in.

There's already a pay-to-use outfit putting a strong signal out somewhere near the Hilton, so I assume this is legal and do-able; but I've no idea if the costs would be low enough to attract the necessary sponsors..

..anyone know what this sort of thing costs?

No, but you seem to be wanting to re-create what is already there.

- Is it?

I don't recall the name when seeking a signal when I was last in the centre of town, about four months ago; and others in this thread have mentioned using the rather weak signal from Sukwilai hotel..

The Hua Hin City wide signal is only OK if you are close to Petchkasem Road. The further you move away from Petchkasem the weaker the signal becomes. I could never pick it up in the centre of town and gave up on it.

I had a quick look at Citywide's website - it's not obvious how the service is funded.

Is it publicly funded - or are their hidden charges if you try to make use of it?

I think it's publicly funded. You can only use it for 30 mins at a time if I recall correctly.

That raises an interesting possibility..

..depending on where they transmit from, it might be possible to install a single and inexpensive repeater station to cover the bar area.

- I wonder if they have a budget for improving their coverage?

As was mentioned in some of the earlier replies, a number of the bars offer free wifi, so just find one you like and your problem is solved.

But quite a lot of bars (probably most of them) don't have a fixed telephone line.

A good wifi signal that covered the whole area would not only be a great advantage to them, but would also enable those places that are only retaining a fixed line for internet purposes to dispense with ToT.
