Jose

The previous owner is a well known nutter. His previous bar failed because of that

Thee are 2 DEAD buildings-- this one and the never open Pizza place next door-- El Murphs and Limelight are the only places keeping that part of town viable.

Not so negative everybody. Me and my business partner Andre bought this place. We've knocked down the walls and had it painted (all black was a little depressing). We've opened about 3 weeks ago and actually the bar is running much better as we expected before. Of course every week has a few quiet evenings, but the same happened in the low season when I had TNT. But at other evenings it is pleasantly busy so overall we're more then happy with it.

Mat, don't let them get you down. I still laugh whenever I see the "expert" postings about how much business I was doing with Lolitas. Good luck with the bar, I'll be in for a drink soon.

I am not an 'expert' but I have visited HH many times; for my first few visits a week was long enough, and I started looking around Thailand for the end of the Rainbow, but of course there is no end. :-)
Now I am quite happy staying in HH and walking around the 'Square' every evening during my stay, seeing what or who takes my fancy.
In a bar I don't take too much notice of the Beer prices but I don't like paying 150-180 for lady drinks. I like the music not to blast my ears and senses as happens in some bars on Binta.
If the Footy or Rugby is on I like to hear the commentary and not have music on, half time break no problems with music.
The Bar must be welcoming and have some friendly girls in the 20-40 age group.
I have found that nearly all the bars are clean enough and have enough fans, but as another BM posted it is nice to see the 'falang' (boss but not on paper bosss)most nights.
On Selakam, Moonlight could be a great bar but is a shadow of its former self. Bentho, for no particular reason other than it is next door to my preferred guesthouse I do not use too much.
Papayita I enjoy but there are not many seats, the stools are pretty hard on the 'Toot' as well.
Oh la la not really a proper bar as such.
Caddy Shack, say no more.
No Name bar and the small one next to it are OK to relax if you are not after company.
The one opposite, is it Pussycats? again so so.
This post is not intended as a criticism of any bars, just my observations, but I can't help feeling that if a 7/11 or mini mart opened say where the Pizza place was opposite Murphs that would bring more people to the Soi.
I hope to be with you 12th November, Yippee.

Hello Gus

If you are paying 150-180 Baht for a lady drink then it is more likely to do with what the lady is drinking and not what the bar is charging. Most bars the lady drink is around 30-40 baht on top of the normal price. If it is that price range then the girl is probably drinking something like a Bacardi Breezer rather than a beer or Samsong/coke. November will come soon, enjoy.

As I've said before, it's also nice to have bars that cater for different tastes. In general, I like a nice quite place where I can sit and enjoy my beer while I look at all the craziness surrounding me. On the other hand, if a few mates are over on holiday, something slightly more crazy is on the cards, unless they're all married. I don't mind blaring music whereas other punter do, so each to their own. If I was granted one wish as far as Hua-Hin night life is concerned, I would like to be able to go to a nightclub that well and truly heaves, on a par with many of the clubs I visited in the UK. Yes, I know I'm too old, but give me modern dance music presented by an experienced DJ anytime. :D

The only such place I've ever come across was a small club in Samut Sakhon which, despite their music and etc, was off limits to any and all persons under he age of around 30. The place was well and truly electric and yet there was never even a hint of trouble. Enjoyed many great "lock-ins" there with the owner and her circle of friends. :D

For those who don't yet see what they're looking for in Hua-Hin........I guess you'll just have to wait. BTW, the place I mentioned above was not in any way a girly bar but I'm sure a similar sort of place in Hua-Hin would attract a crowd, even if only a younger crowd. The problem is of course that it would probably require an influential Thai owner.

In the meantime, let's just enjoy what we have, and good luck to the new owners of the bar in question.

Yes, I understand where you are coming from, it is the girls decision what to drink and not the bars, if a girl asks if she can have Bac-a-di then that cushions the blow and I usually say yes.
But if the girls try to take the *iss then that bar is not for me anyway, fortunately this doesn't happen very much, I do remember one similar incident a few years ago at London bar.
A girl had a couple of Gin and Oranges out of me, when i had a sip of the second one, no gin, surprise surprise.
I hope the V bar does well, I never had the chance to pop in whilst it was named Up2U.

I think the 'juice with lots of ice' pretending to be a lady drink must be one of the oldest scams in Thailand.

One thing I always wonder about is why the staff turn up the volume of the music the later it gets, and often more volume than the sound system are bulit for.
Around 11 pm it´s impossible to have a normal chat in a bar and that get at least me leaving the place.
If you look at the average age to the customer in HH it´s not teenagers...

I remember sitting in a bar and asking them to turn the music down because it was unbelievably loud. They turned and said to that they were turning it up because the people sitting outside couldn't hear it. I don't think it occurred to them that the people probably moved outside specifically to avoid the music!

The worst thing is the pushy staff that on to you to buy more drinks even before you finished the one you got.
As my gf says, Thailand...
They just don´t know how to do business.

Looks a lot better than the previous reincarnation. A few girls there 5s and 6s,but then all the 7,8 and 9s who made a few baht, have gone home till the crowds return. Has a few customers, bought by some Dutch guys, word is that they want to flip it quickly.
