It is, provided Somchai can be persuaded to turn the dammed meter on, at least from what I've read, Hua Hin doesn't appear to be in the grip of a Phuket style taxi mafiaPleng wrote:pe7e wrote:Pleng wrote:

We ride with Tuk-Tuk's. We paid 200baht for 9 persons. Sounds pretty cheap in my opinion.
Re: Getting around after dark?
I think tuktuk is the best way in the night!
Re: Getting around after dark?
and if you get stuck just flag a Thai down and offer 200bt to run you home!

How is the security with these motorbike taxi`s at night. Read quite a bit of "rip-off`s/robbing" in Pattaya in late nights going home.

Hua hin isn't Pattaya! That's why we live here. :-)
Enjoying 'Retirement'....So many jobs to do, I don't know how I ever had time to work!

Just make sure you agree the fare in advance and you'll be fine.
If you forget to agree in advance, and the fare is more than you're expecting, then just pay up and chalk it down to experience.

Getting around after dark?
Never pay more than 200 baht (from Hilton area) and I live near municipal court on Soi 88 just before going over the hill. Probably could get away with 150 but I always give a tip.
I also have a regular tuk tuk man who is always at my house when needed, good to have a number of a reliable driver. Always found tuk tuk drivers to be courteous without any issues. I have a car and bike but take tuk tuks everywhere if eating out and drinking across Petkasem road. Paid 150 baht for tuk tuk from clock tower to Ibis recently.

I personally never had a problem at all with M/C taxis late at night - BUT I lived in HH and was known to - and knew - a lot of them. So I can understand that for newbies and tourists it could be a bit daunting.Adammada wrote:How is the security with these motorbike taxi`s at night. However - on more recent return trips to HH I've still never had a problem. It does help though if you know your way around in the first place.
It also must be said that late at night the tuktuks tend to disappear, so M/Cs can be the only option.
