Quick question. Are the bars open tonight (Valentine's Day) ?
Thanks to anyone who knows the answer.
Are the bars open tonight (Feb 14)?
Re: Are the bars open tonight
Don't know about the bars, but we called two of our favorite "special occasion" restaurants to see if we could have wine with our dinner and they both said no. We are delaying our Valentine's day celebration to tomorrow night.
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Re: Are the bars open tonight
Last night all the bars in Binta got served a notice by the police to close at midnight & stay closed till midnight on the 14th..24hrs.
Well at midnight last night the bars down Binta were busy & not one bar closed..
For once every bar defied the police and carried on serving till 2.00am as usual..

I was told bar in Khao Takiab will be closed tonight, but got the impression it was something to do with Buddhist festival. The barman said there will be torchlight processions at all Buddhist temples between 7-9pm.
Re: Are the bars open tonight
bars are closed not because it's valentine day but because it is "makha bucha day" one of the biggest festival in buddhist religion
as follow a little information about the religious day
Observed in Thailand, Buddhist Holiday in Thailand
When is Makha Bucha Day?
Year Date
2015 March 2nd
2014 February 14th
2013 February 25th
2012 March 7th
2011 February 18th
National Holiday in Thailand. Date depends on Lunar cycle. Also known as Magha Puja.
Also a public holiday in Laos and Cambodia.
On this day, the full moon of the third lunar month; seven months after Buddha began his teachings, 1,250 monks gathered to hear Buddha preach. Buddha ordained these monks and spread the principles of Buddhism. This marked a key event in the development of the religion.
45 years later, on the same full moon in the third lunar month, Buddha again delivered his teachings shortly before his death.
This third lunar month on which both events occurred is known in Buddhist Pali language as 'Makha'. 'Bucha', means to honour.
Despite the great age of these events, (Buddha was teaching over 2,500 years ago) Makha Bucha only became a holiday in 1957. Prior to 1957, the third lunar month was celebrated as a Buddhist Holy Day.
In the morning many Thai people wake up early to give alms to monks. In the evening, temples are full of people listening to sermons. They often perform a ritual known as the the candle ceremony where they walk clockwise three times around the temple. holding flowers, incense and a lighted candle.

Bars closed due to public holiday
There were many bars closed last night (Friday) due to a public holiday. Rumour has it that this is a 3 day holiday.......although there were still some bars open, it was certainly quieter than normal. Does anyone know if this will continue over the full weekend ?
Re: Are the bars open tonight (Feb 14)?
it is not a 3 day holiday everything back to normal today
