Monicas Soi 88. Cashier scamming

Post by dalmatiandave »

Had a great night out tonight in Bobby's bar, great food, great drink and great company, can't be beat for the offer.

Later decided to have a drink at Monica's bar on Soi 88 before going home. Friendly, good atmosphere but needed to get home after a drink for the babe and me. Check bin was only 145 baht, no problem, gave the girl 170 baht, a 100, a 50 and a 20. Then we get back a 5 baht in the wallet. Excuse me I gave the girl 25 baht tip as she had really done her job well and these girls usually don't make much money. Cashier says she didn't notice the 50 baht in the wallet but again excuse me if she thought it was a two 20's then I am 5 baht short not 5 baht change. Rip off. My girlfriend tried to sort it out but at no time from the cashier was it accepted that she had 170 baht, she insisted she had 140 baht but the bill was 145 baht. Just a scam for the cashier to make 20 baht and the girls who do all the work left with 5 baht. The cashier had nothing to say, everybody else just looked on. Just another bar that failed to deliver to me and my babe, not because it is a bad bar but because it has a cashier that wants to rip off the girls working in the bar. Out of order in my book.

Flame me, I don't care but I won't be back, there are other bars to drink in. No apology, no acceptance of what I had given to pay the bill.

Have been visiting Monica's since 2008 and have never had a problem. Maybe just a genuine mistake

Seems strange that somebody would try to scam you for 20 baht, it doesn't seem worth the effort even if they do it to 10 customers they've only made 200 baht - sounds like a genuine mistake and not worth getting excited over.

You guys are probably right but the girl insisted I gave her two 20's and a hundred. Even my girl said how could she give 5 baht change then. I just felt she was keeping money back for herself rather than spreading the tips. Correct though, not worth getting worried about, I was just annoyed at her insistance on what I gave her.

the tips in most bars are shared between all the girls .so i cant see the problem if some one gave her 170 baht to me its obviously a tip or else why put the extra 20 baht in the wallet ,

plus why try to kill/persecute a buisiness that someone has worked hard to build up
on a public forum over something so petty , and no ive never been in the bar so im not a friend of the owner , but i know plenty who go there and never heard any complaints

if i ever have a problem i judge with my feet i simply never return ,i would not do it on a public forum

I agree, I have been drinking there on and off for years. No problems at all, and I think for this very small amount just a mistake. Maybe also a face matter?

Interesting how the OP promotes one business and then goes onto vent his anger against another over a minor alleged incident.

Why do you guys always turn on the OP when someone makes a post like this.
plus why try to kill/persecute a buisiness that someone has worked hard to build up

He's not trying to hurt the business, he's not complaining about the business. He's complaining about one employee cheating other employees and obviously lying about it when she got caught.
I agree, I have been drinking there on and off for years. No problems at all, and I think for this very small amount just a mistake. Maybe also a face matter?
Unless you are a big tipper you would never know about something like this happening. If it is obviously a tip, so nothing to return to the table, then you would never know. It may have been a mistake, but trying to cover it up by telling a lie that doesn't even make sense according to the amount of the bill is ludicrous. All evidence points to her pocketing at least 20 unless she simply cannot count money and change.

IMO cheated the other employees (probably ongoing, doubling her daily salary), got caught, came up with not so plausible story to save face.

It wouldn't keep me from going there because as I said this is not a dig at the business, but I would give tips directly to the person who gave me the service in the future.

It's an alleged incident and for me I would never vent my anger against a business or an employee of a business on a public forum, it's unfair and one sided

Pretty much everything written on a forum like this is alleged and I didn't read it as an angry vent, just a story of what happened being told.

I thought it was interesting how she "allegedly" brought back 5 baht and then when confronted "allegedly" said it had been 100 and 2 20's instead of 100, a 50, and a 20. If she brought back 5 baht then she should be given another job that doesn't include counting or simple math because as the OP said that doesn't make sense. He would have owed 5 baht more, not received 5 baht in change.

BTW, I did stop going to a restaurant where I was eating several times a week because of poor service. I mentioned it to the owner, jokingly at first, and several visits later more seriously as the situation had not improved. The owner even admitted it but took no action to correct it.

Maybe if I had mentioned it on here the situation would have been rectified to keep from losing business.

You see an owner can learn from posts on here and correct the situation which may help the business... and if he/she wants they can come on here and answer the post either calling it bull or saying it has been corrected.

I don't want to read a "whitewashed" forum controlled by a few PC police where nothing negative can be posted. If it's really bad or uncalled for the moderators will take care of it so you ameteur mods can relax and read peoples opinions and "alleged" experiences knowing we are being watched over by a great group of even handed moderators should the need arise.

Correct, more the pity, I would imagine there have been quite a few businesses that have suffered through this type of venting.

I think you do rather well in keeping up the negative comment count.

I always try to do my share, thank you, but if you count back for a few months, I think you'll find more helpful or positive posts from me than negative and that quite a few of the negative ones have a smilly attached which usually means I am joking or being ironic.
