I guess that you are at least 50% right.....Sure it will become yet another bar that is no different than the rest. and that is a shame, its the differences, the owner, the personality that make bars individual and interesting. "Same Same" and not different does not appeal to most foreigners. Billy's bar has stood the test of time because of the personality of the owner and way the bar was run.oakdale160 wrote:Best guess, a bar.

I think you mis-read what Kendo was trying to say...Harry Bosch wrote:Bendo what are you talking about, the man deserves respect? The end of an era. Few people can beat 20 years in the business! Well done Billy and all the best for the future whatever it holds. Enjoy your party - Mags

Re: Billy's Bar closes forever
Sad to see this go. It was one (maybe the only) bar left downtown with no working girls (for hire) on site. That's why I still go there on the infrequent nights that I find myself downtown.
It was the very first bar I had a beer in in Hua Hin when I first came in 2003 and Billy was the first Bar owner I met here.
Even though I'm an infrequent downtown visitor nowadays I will miss Billy and the occasional beer there.

Not at all GN I comprehend what he said. Always piping up with a snipe, just like you now. My question was "Why is it closing and where is he going?" You can read the reply! Thank you.Ginjaninja wrote:Kendo wrote:Why don't you pop around from the Tavern and pay him a visit the man deserves respect he's a top fella.I think you mis-read what Kendo was trying to say...Harry Bosch wrote:Bendo what are you talking about, the man deserves respect? How many bars/restaurants are now open after the same ownership for over 10 years?
Not many and I guess they are up for sale for a mug with the right bankroll
I used Billy's years ago and it was always a good bar and meeting point for many like-minded people. Shame to see it go down the path that many character bars have gone.
Same same all over the globe I guess..........Progress

Hi Billy,
Hope you are reading this, I know of no other way to contact you. I am one of the people you got to know during your early Hua Hin days: Kees, Amsterdam Bar. I arrived December 1994, and you followed roughly one year later.
End of an era, surprises me that there are not more posts in this thread. Hats off to you for having been a major spill around which the Hua Hin expat scene revolved for 20 years.
Still remember you often dropping by briefly in the middle of the night, when after 2 AM activity mainly took place in the Joy Guesthouse and the Amsterdam Bar.
So many characters we have known: Bear, Julia d'Ambrosia, Paul Holder, Fast Eddy,Gino, could go on and on. Still often think of my Hua Hin period, which lasted till 2000.
Soon after I moved to Khao Lak, your place was one of the last ones where I still knew the owner and had a chance to meet acquaintances. Is Berny still around? I might now finally meet the age requirement to have a beer there.
I understand you'll stay in Hua Hin, good luck with whatever you'll do now, and have a nice party tomorrow.
Hope to see you again,
Kees.

Re: Billy's Bar closes forever
Hi, Keestha, Billy does not often read this forum, but I will pass on your message for you.
Berny is still around and still has his bar in the Bazaar as well as all the work he does for the Golf Society.
If you PM your e-mail address I can pass it on to Billy.

Hi DSB, that's cool, thank you, I'm happy if you just pass on my message to Billy whenever you chance to see him, or maybe forward by e-mail. If Billy wishes so, he can find my contact details easily enough when googling amsterdam resort khao lak.
Nice to hear Berny is still around. His place was the first regular hangout I ever had in Hua Hin, in the period 1992 till 1994 when I lived in Bangkok, and spent the weekends in Hua Hin. It was called Suzie Wong in those days, and was run by Colin who still heads the Observer Group I believe.

Re: Billy's Bar closes forever
last reminder from me for Billy's party tonight.
Re: Billy's Bar closes forever
Saturday was a nice evening at Billys, little bit surreal.. Billys just became one of those places you could alwys rely upon to get super cold beer, proper music and some good crack.... and if Ian Lawrie was playing pool some definite banter!!
I had my head shaved for the first time at around 2am one morning in Billys (courtesy of Diver Dave).. think 5 or 6 of us were done that night... was a real shock in the morning....
Billy is a real legend of the Hua Hin bar scene and will be missed by many.
Thanks for the good times Billy
