There were no bars in Soi 80 / Soi hotpot when I lived there before 2000, only the restaurant about half way up existed.

That's how I remember it. The Office was the bar I knew there - what foresight that must have been.

Yes
Soi hotpot is I suppose soi 80 now or always was.

As said the restaurant on the corner with petchasem was one of the hotpot chain .
I still refer to that soi as soi hotpot and oddly some of the thais still do.

Think it was dicks office.
I think it was jonny walkers dad who bought and renamed it.

It was a bar before he bought it and had been on the market a while at a decent price.

My first visit to Hua Hin was in 1991. The bars in those days were Duncan's Kiwi Corner (on the corner of Chomsin), Head Rock (opposite the Hilton), Crocodile (one of the few on Bintabaht) and when those closed you could get a drink at G's (by Jed Pee Nong) and G2 (on the corner by the main traffic lights). You could get a drink at All Nations (Donny).

1992 was when Bintabaht really started taking off with bars setting up starting from the Hilton end of the soi. Bernie opened his bar on the left, The Rose Bar next to Bernie's, Terry (worked on The Melia Hotel - now Hilton)opened T's (old Crocodile) opposite. A few bars opened in the bazaar - Colin's Red Indian, before he moved to where Bernie's is now.

The town has certainly changed from those days.

Remember staying at the Melia circa early 90's (91 - 93) but went with my wife and very young son as a trip from Bangkok so wasn't looking for watering holes... Do remember having a drink or two at the hotel bar, though.
