Let's have another thread:- "Judge RCer Decrees"

It would be lovely to think that we can all agree on what is "right and wrong" but the role of a judge is to objectively interpret the law, not give in to their inevitable bias. I'm sure it's not so easy.

Back to the OP, I agree that it probably all happened very fast and I also believe there are more options to help than just "wading in" with fists flying. Actually that is probably the worst thing to do, escalating the violence level by adding more aggression is likely to only get more people hurt.

I do take issue with not doing anything to help after the event. One may not be medically qualified to stem the flow of blood or suture wounds but one of the biggest problems following significant physical trauma is shock. We all have the ability to talk, to soothe, to reassure, to calm someone down and to try and provide some normality or familiarity while the victim's brain catches-up with what just happened. A little compassion goes a very long way.

It's still not black and white, there are grey areas.

How many times have we read on this forum (and I'm sure it has been said on many others) if you're a Farang, just walk away? I'm not sure I'd agree with that, but those that say it might have brainwashed others.

If there are a crowd of onlookers, the last thing an injured party will want is to be smothered or stared at. As I said, if I was the only one there, I would definitely try to offer assistance. If there is plenty of help, others will be better qualified than me, so I would walk on. I would not leave somebody (regardless of colour or race) stranded all alone on the street, but I won't try to take the lead when others are already trying to help either. I understand my limitations.

404cameljockey wrote: Tue Aug 01, 2017 9:06 pm I actually see what you mean. I did say 'Completely random violence'. I guess I was suckered in by the title of the post too. A perfect example of how it's necessary not to jump to conclusions and redzonerocker was the man who made that clear. Kudos to him/her. But I can stand by the rest of my comments. Thanks. :)
About 5 minutes research, in response to your mention of near-racist posts.

And kudos to me for pointing out your error.

And more than one actually. The use of 'emasculated' is generalising and potentially derogatory - and is an assumption based on a stereotype and as for questioning, or implying to, the size of their manhood, well! :tsk: :D

Truth be told, I honestly really don't care, as long as it's not outlandish, but coming from a work environment where folk were almost too scared to speak because of anything they said being misinterpreted or deemed potentially insulting to one group or another, then yeah, that comment about racism made me sit up and take notice, as I'm as anti-PC as they come. I hate it when such comments are used as a form of intimidation or moral righteousness or indignation. Ooh, look what I just did! 8)
Those are a lot from words from someone who doesn't care....

I stand by my comments that some Thai men (you will see I previously said some, and that it's not the major problem some forum users believe) feel emasculated by others' money and power (possibly from others' better jobs, the deference shown to them, maybe even their attitude towards those of lower station) and if the target is farang then this gives them an easy grudge to formulate (easier than hating another Thai). If they then act on it that's the racism, not my having mentioned it. That comment (emasculation) was anyway a generality and did not refer specifically to the incident in question. If you want to disagree with the statement it's up to you, but I think you'd be in the minority, and it is in any case no way an example of stereotyping, because I clearly said that I felt it was not a major thing. That in fact is the opposite of stereotyping.

The bashing that Thai men generically get in this forum from some users is most certainly at the very least near-racist.

I also am un-PC and I claim NO moral high-ground, but I can smell bigotry when it's held under my nose. Let's see if further details of the incident come to light and see if the title of this thread holds any value; it well may not, as I said.

By the way, if you need to Google penis size around the world, feel free, the information is freely bandied about. Tut all you like, Thais both male and female will be aware of it I'm sure.

As I said in a previous post Thais react as animals. Look at videos about road rage, young school boys attacking others with swords and more.

This thread is reading like an extension of the previous post re: the well publicised and televised incident in Binta...

I have the same feeling about both incidents i.e. it is assumed that they were unprovoked and random i.e there was no history involved.

In the incident which is the subject of this post;

Maybe harsh words had been exchanged earlier in the day/week between the two men.
Maybe the farang was having a relationship which the Thai's wife or member of his family and had been caught out.
Maybe the farang had accidentally/deliberately caused the Thai to "lose face" previously.
Maybe the farang had previously beaten up the Thai!
Maybe the farang owed the Thai B1,000,000 and was refusing to pay him back.
I suppose that it's even possible that the farang had been heard by the Thai being disrespectful to the Royal Family?
Maybe the Thai was high on drink or drugs....

As with the previous incident, a decision appears to have been reached based on the few available facts that are to hand.

I agree entirely with previous posters that as, unfortunately, similar incidents occur regularly globally on a daily basis, it is perhaps a little harsh to highlight the fact that in this incident it was farang who was on the receiving end.

If a farang was seen beating up a Thai would that have resulted in a post at all?

Because it was a woman that threw the first punch or because she didn't get a second shot in?

Yes, I wondered how you would react to my light hearted goading, but the lesson surely is; he who casts the first stone and all that.........

Bigotry and racism: I am talking about people who post stuff above like "As I said in a previous post Thais react as animals. Look at videos about road rage, young school boys attacking others with swords and more." I in no way made any statement like this and am saddened by such words. Your crusade against bigotry seems to be aimed at the wrong target. I made no statements tarring all Thai men with one brush, I'd challenge you to find otherwise.

If you think you are goading me you're wrong, and it's also very sad that you seem to love to gloat when people admit they were wrong, as you clearly do.

But glibly quoting parables masks the facts. I repeat, I very clearly said that I do not believe all Thai men are ready to attack farang, I said it right from the start and there can be no argument about that.

I think this is about to get circular, so if you want the last word I'll let you have it.

Okay, oh righteous one, relax. No crusade at all. I started by merely pointing out you had criticised others for something you too were guilty of, that's all - and that's something I do as well.

Bigotry and racism
An all too regularly used accusation flung around so lightly now. You are now either a Nazi or a Marxist in an instant these days with the levels of intolerance we commonly see.

There is some middle-ground still and it seems common to instantly throw the extremes at people for saying the slightest thing now.

The world is full of sensitive snowflakes with agendas imo these days.

Look, Spitfire, someone can make a public statement here that 'Thais react like animals' and you DON'T consider that racist or bigoted? I really don't know how to talk to you.

By the way kudos for finding one of last year's keyboard warrior terms, 'snowflake', but I think you should try to use it in more appropriate circumstances next time. No snowflakes here old son. Have a go at using SJW next time too!

Probably a good thing to be honest.

And, as for the "Look Spitfire......" thing/comment...sounds arrogant as my comment didn't single you out really, more of a general point.

I think you have sensitivity issues man as you took umbrage to my comments without me really having-a-pop at you. My comments were general tbh

As you quoted from my post I felt you were addressing my comments. I think that's reasonable, not arrogant, but if I was wrong as it seems I was then I apologise, of course.
