Eurovision song contest

Post by arcadianagain »

I returned home after a night out and caught the dregs of this annual farce. It was no surprise to learn that the winner was a Russel Brand lookalike, complete with beard, in a spingly spangly frock. This show was only worth watching when Terry Wogan did his irreverent commentary. Does anyone on HHAD admit to being a fan of the EVSC.?

I have to agree with you it's a totally pointless programme. Banal in the extreme. The only memorable song in the last 40 years was Waterloo by Abba. There may be more,I stand to be corrected.

Yeah, yeah, I had mates like you who'd pop into the local for a quick one after work, then about 7 say they had to nip home 'to walk the dog' or 'help the kids with their homework'. We know you love it really!

Well I wasn't really being serious, of course, but to be perfectly fair, I don't think the Eurovision Song Contest takes itself too seriously any more.

Have a look at the supposed 'Eurovision Museum', particularly at 1 min 30 secs.

Some Europeans take this competition seriously. I for one as a Brit, since Abba won, have mostly seen it as a comedy show. I actually have difficulty in looking at the winner, makes me feel quite sick, the joke has gone for me and has been replaced with 100% total mediocrity.

OK I admit it, I was really sitting in front of the tv in my gold lame onesie with my special friends waving my little Union Jack flag

Russia: We'll have our own 'straight' Eurovision and there won't be any bearded men in dresses

A punk band made up of musicians with learning disabilities is to represent Finland at the Eurovision Song Contest.

The quartet, named PKN, was chosen by Finnish viewers on Saturday and has now been ranked by bookmakers as among the favourites for the contest.

The group, whose members have Down's syndrome and autism, will perform their 85-second song Aina Mun Pitaa (I Always Have To) at the event in Vienna in May.
