Cable TV Pranburi ... wrong side of the track

I live on the east side of the railway tracks running through Pranburi and I am informed that local cable TV is not available this side of the tracks. Sounds illogical, but maybe some other Pranburi district resident on the board can confirm or clarify for me.

I live on the west side In Pranburi City about 500 yards from the Pranburi railway station and could have got cable but they wanted me to pay for about 100 yards of cable 900 Baht so i went for satelite and told cable to stuff it.

Thanks for your feedback Legend, I eventually settled for satellite TV myself but was and still am curious about the arbitrary way some things are done in this wonderful country.

Mag i agree it was the downright cheek of expecting me to pay for the cable they were going rent to me that got up my nose

Had i gone for it, any house within the the cable (i would have paid for) would have got free connection

So i would end getting them 10/12 customers at MY expense mind boggling business model

Are there any other alternative services available via Satellite here? The unending repeats and few children's channels are a bit of a pain. Ideally, a mix between some cable and Satellite would've come close. We're not TV freaks, but would be nice to be able to access something more than the same ol, same ol.

In England cable isn't very widespread at all. It's totally unavailable where I come from, and Satellite has a stranglehold (though with products like BT Vision through the internet options are getting better).

There was a survey done in my road (actually now I think about it, it must have stretched a LOT further than that. Probably covered half the county... I don't really remember - but just my road wouldn't make sense) when I was a teenager, to gauge the interest in cable tv so that the company involved could asses the viability of laying cables. Guess there just wasn't the interest then.

Clearly it's a different situation here as there are cable lines literally on the other side of the railway. If you live in a community where you know a lot of the residents you could go about seeing if there's enough interest and try and lobby the company saying 'look we've got x amount of people want your service, will you be willing to lay the lines?' Although I feel you'd probably be banging your head against a wall. Another alternative would be to club together and share the cost of laying the lines. Although this seems a little less fair, as the cable company are going to have those cables making money for them forever, it does seem a lot less stressful than the lobbying option!

Not necessarily. That's exactly what we did years ago. The cable went to the Thai houses in the village about a kilometer away from where we built. We contacted them and they wouldn't run it just for us so we surveyed all the neighbors and found that a lot of them wanted cable. My wife explained this to the cable company and we all had service about a month later.
