Christmas in Hua Hin 2010
I,m just arrived in HH, and wondering how to celebrate Christmas. I,m aware that in a country with buddism, they don,t have any official celebration of the western style of Christmas, but I suppose the many foreigners have places to come together for celebration. Can anybody who have stayed some time tell me something?
Re: Christmas in Hua Hin 2010
Where are you from HG?. I ask because it's a case of do you dine on Christmas eve or Christmas day
Plenty to choose from at varied prices. Friends house, restaurants, cafes and bars with food.
Thais don't need an excuse to celebrate. They just do. Ask most of them what Christmas represents and they haven't a clue but don't care. We're spending and that is all that matters to them
Jingle bells and shop around
Doubt whether you'll find mistletoe and snow you will have to ship in (UK are doing a good deal at the moment I believe)

It’s none of my business what people say and think of me. I am what I am and do what I do. I expect nothing and accept everything. It makes life so much easier.

Here's some more insight, but as Richard says, just about every hotel of 3 star and above, and all restaurants with foreign clientele will have something either Christmas eve or day, or both. The bars should be rocking as well. Pete

I,m from Norway , and we celebrate on Christmas eve, we have lot of good food, special sausages, meat from both sheeps and pigs, beer and norwegian aquavit
( if anybody havn,t tried , it are served cold from the frezzer and taste in some way like Bols, but much, much better) Even it,s most a day for the children, because the children are vaiting and vaiting the hole long day for their presents to be open . But we also gives presents to the adults, ( the big difference is that the presents to the adults are more expencive)

The Christmas music has started in all the Malls etc, that always bugs me, but in Thai there is an extra twist. It doesn't stop on Dec 26th but can go on until after New Year.

And then New Year goes on until the Chinese and Thai ones! Actually it's not so bad this year - at least the decorations etc didn't start in early NovemberDr Mike wrote:The Christmas music has started in all the Malls etc, that always bugs me, but in Thai there is an extra twist. A sprout is for life - not just for Christmas.

Sometimes the decorations stay up all year. My little Mom and Pop noodle shop over here I've been staring at Merry Christmas an Happy New Year foil banners each and everyday since the 2009 holidays. I told them time to get up there on a ladder and dust them off and straighten out the wrinkles as the season is upon us again. Pete

In general the 'official' decorations seem to stay up until Chinese New Year anyway, which is 3rd of Feb, I think.
Had enough of the trolls. Going to sleep. I may be some time....

Re: Christmas in Hua Hin 2010
Gunnar,
As my grandmother was Norwegian, I've always celebrated Xmas on the 24th with my family back home.
Wanting to have some smorbrot (sic) years ago, I heard of the Admiral's Pub/restaurant which is just down the road from the Post Office, on the same side. I think they're Danish owned.
They were excellent. Rollmop herrings, meatballs, fish fillets, beef, chicken, lots of different salad things and sauces etc etc. Brie and grapes to finish. Plenty of white and black bread.
That was just from the set menu for two. A la carte is more extensive. I always order them on the 22nd and pick them up on the 24th about 6.30pm. I've had them every year since I came over 12 Xmases ago.
If that's your fancy, then I can recommend them. Don't leave it until the 24th to order for take away or sit down. They'll be too busy and you won't be able to get service.
