OK you good people of Hua Hin..how many of you would fancy a late-afternoon walk in the jungle with around 60-80 fellow ex-pats/visitors..?? :)
The meet/start point of this weeks hash walk/run is at the top of Soi 88, (past the new H.H court-house building)..& just as you get to the top of the winding hill on the western fringe of town. (look for the HHH sign in red & yellow).
This Saturday's event is close to town & easliy reached by scooter/motorcyle..so how about coming and giving your legs a bit of a weekend workout..??
The Hash is an event for walkers & runners, & is non competetive..purely a social occasion, stout walking shoes or any form of trainers are ideal footwear. :thumb:
Each weekly walk/run lasts for about 50mins to 1hr 10mins depending on the route set..?
There's food & drink to enjoy back at the start/finish point after you've completed the route, plus chance for a good old chin-wag with other Hashers.
Run fees are a mere 200b if you're drinking beer or wine after the walk, & 100B for non-drinkers, and the meet-time is 4.00pm, & we all set off at 4.30.
If you've half a mind to come and join the Hua Hin & Cha Am Hash, then we'd love to meet you this Saturday afternoon.. See you there.. :thumb:

Time for a little light exercise..

Hua Hin Hash House Harriers

If you've never heard of the Hash House Harriers, the Wiki entry is a good read.

Summed up as: 'Drinkers who have a walking problem' this is a global organisation with around 2000 branches, yet no global HQ, no flash offices or overpaid CEO, just a 'spiritual home' where it all began in Kuala Lumpur shortly before WWII.

Locally there are two branches that meet on alternate Saturdays - the Hua Hin Hash and the Cha Am Hash (I won't post a link to their websites as that might break the rules, but they are easily Googled)

The local Hashes are a paper trail through the countryside in the late afternoon, after the heat of the sun has passed. They are sometimes on open paths, sometimes crashing through the jungle, often a bit of both. There is usually a short walk, a longer walk and an extra loop for those who want to run the trail. Typically 75% of those who attend the local hashes walk the course. It is wholly non-competitive, and you are usually back in about an hour.

At the end there is beer and snacks and then the group circles up for what are known as the down-downs, where you can be punished for offences as varied as wearing new shoes or standing with hand on hip (tea-potting) - the fine is to drink a beer. Afterwards part of the group will retire to a local restaurant.

It is not politically correct, so if you are of a snowflake disposition, please be aware of that.

The local groups are very welcoming - even if you're only here for a week's holiday, they will go out of their way to organise a lift for you.

There is no formal membership of the Hashes, but you will be asked to pay a 'Hash Tax' usually 200 baht, to cover the cost of beer and other expenses. If someone is giving you a lift, a contribution to the petrol tank is polite.

I recommend log trousers when going on a hash (although many don't) as the low scrub in Thailand is often thorny. Bring a phone and note someone's number, so you can be found if you get lost.

- If you've never tried hashing, you don't know what you're missing..
I may be drunk, Miss, but in the morning I shall be sober and you will still be ugly...
