why do you rarely see sailing boats on the sea in Hua Hin?

So what is going on around here and where does it happen? This section is for discussion on local events, festivals, and holidays as well as activities and things to do.

This is Thailand. Thais have apparently not (yet) acquired the taste for sailing boats. If any, they would probably belong to farangs. But I guess farangs have better things to do!.
To my recollection it has never been different.
(I am speaking about Hua Hin, I don't know the situation elsewhere, but I suspect the picture is the same).

Thais sail all the time on this side. Maybe the wind is better...no clue. Pete

If the "Deep Water Marina" in Khao Takieb comes into existence, then you may start seeing more sailing vessels.

Hua Hin has a regatta every year - plenty of sail then.

I suspect the lack of facilities deter the average WAFI from the area. Not such a bad thing for some as the yellow welly brigade usually lead to hyped up prices (even more than the usual HH increase). Would keep the Navy busy in front of the palace no doubt as they navigate with the same regard to rules as Thai's drive cars.
With the locals adversity to exposure to sunlight and the cost of the activity I could never see it really taking off here as in other countries.

I have launched my sailing dinghy from the beach at Kao Takiab with no problem, but I found that particular boat a bit uncomfortable and would repeat the comment that Thai wives are not drawn to bobbing about getting sunburnt. I then spent 5 years building a 20ft sailing skiff, and now I find that there is really only one place to launch it, in the marina at Pak Nam Pran. They charge 500 baht for that, and it is not possible to do it at low tide. With the unusual tide sequences here you have to plan things quite carefully.
I'm determined, now that I have a bit more time on my hands, to get sailing again - so watch out! Anyone interested in joining me or indeed building their own boat, by all means let me know, initially through this forum.

Show them this picture of HM the King sailing a Finn dinghy in the 1960's.

I have recently started to sail with a small sailing dinghy ( topper) off the the beach opposite soi 94 ( bus station) . I have been sailing for many years in UK, but in large keel boats, I have missed my sailing when Hua Hin, so I brought a small sailing dinghy over here, to get my "fix". I have not sailed in dinghies since I was a teenager, it has been great fun, but the old bones ache a bit.
I am back again early April, if you see a light blue sail, say hello ... You are very welcome for a sail.
