Totally agree last year was well worth the effort, managed to get a great parking place with a view right along the beach.

Hi,

I'm a documentary filmmaker and would like to make a short film and photography series on the kite festival.

I would love to get in touch with the organizers and also meet some of the kite flying teams - if someone could let me know who I could contact regarding this that would be amazing.

If you're involved in the festival yourself then it would be great to hear from you : jessie.ayles@gmail.com.

Many thanks!

Jessi this is what I found on Facebook

Cha-am International Kite Festival 2015

Wednesday 11 March, 2015

International-Kite-Festival-680x300

The skies over lovely Cha-Am Beach will be painted with a myriad of colours at this year’s International Kite Festival when thousands of kites, in a variety of forms and structures take flight from 28-29 March, 2014.

As is always the case, it is the more unusual kites that draw the biggest crowds. So this year there will be displays of various forms of kites; for example, animal kites: dinosaur, dragon, centipede, tiger, puppy, bird, bear, camel, and ostrich.

In keeping with the beachside venue, there will also be an exhibition of kites in the form of various underwater creatures, including starfish, turtles, stingrays, puffer fish, and jellyfish which are often found in the sea off Cha-Am Beach.

The event will also be a showcase for kite culture from around the world, including the radio-controlled kite from Singapore, and candy drop kite as well as the exhibition of Thai and international kites and kite workshops.

Over the course of the two-day event, the streets of Cha-Am will be adorned with colourful decorations and there will be lots of exciting activities to enjoy as well as plenty of food and handicraft stalls for when visitors feel like a snack. For those who want to enjoy flying a kite of their own, lots of kite-makers will be in Cha-Am for the weekend setting up shop and selling their creations.

I went to the kite fest today. As with last year's event it was very impressive/colourful. I was upset for a while when it seemed as though they were going to keep the public off the kite field, but they opened the gates at about 4pm.

A few photos from today:

We went to one at the army camp on the Pranburi road way back in 2001/2, had a great time.
Dumped my BIL in a massage tent, where a man in his 70's pummeled him with a big stick, by hitting it with a wooden mallet. almost killed him. :D

Lots of side shows and even a large seating area that was cooled by those water mist sprays.

Great pics BB :thumb:

I found this out whilst trying to find somewhere to park, if you drive past the festival site heading north, after crossing the river, there is a large restaurant on the right with plenty of parking where you can eat seafood and have a drink on the beach overlooking the kite festival.

There is a video on you tube, taken at a Kite show in Vietnam a few days ago. I'm not putting the link up, sorry, but it's too graphic.

A kid of around 5 years old got tangled up in the kite ropes and the poor kid was hoisted up to around 60 feet then dropped to the ground.

So keep your kids safe and well out of the way.
