2016 Hua Hin Regatta

Post by terry+carmen »

Apologies for this late posting just wanted to update members on this year's regatta which took place in front of Regent Chalets and Sailing Club Hua Hin. The Regatta Started on the 19 April with the Vega Rudder Race. The course was from Hua Hin to Sattahip in honour of the 50th Anniversary of His Majesty's famous crossing on 19th April 1966. Sailing Club Hua Hin was represented by Per Erik who was accompanied by Nai and Bas two Thai sailing instructors sailing Terry Ashford's Hobie 16. Regatta racing followed with about 200 boats taking part. Entries came from most of the Asian countries. Richard Vine, Sailing Club Hua Hin, was placed 12 overall but achieved 3 ninth places and a 7th a fantastic achievement. More information can be found on the club's facebook page. Anyone interested in sailing my Hobie Cat or learning to sail PM me glad to help. Anyone between 8 to 80 can sail we just get a little slower with age.

Note to web monitors. I have no financial interests in Hua Hin Sailing Club I'm a member and sail my boat using their facilities. I'm not sure in this post breaks any advertising rules. Please let me know If I need to make changes.

Thanks for the update, isnt it usually held in August? Such a shame there was no marketing, promotion, or information for this event before it happened.

I completely agree. There wasn't much information available until just a few days before the event. I have no idea when the regatta was held last year. We bought our boat after last years regatta so even though I have been sailing on and off for over 35 years we didnt attend last year for the same reason, no advertising. That wont happen next year. The facilities, support and safety were fantastic never seen so many enthusiastic sailors. Hua Hin now has a great sailing club located next to the Regent Chalets that teachers sailing in Optimist and Laser boats, one year lots of practice let's see if we can enter more competitors next year.

One question we have some fantastic photographs of the shoreline covered in boats is there any way to post them on here?
Or can I post a link?
