This whole incident smells of fish. There are reports that the person they are looking for might not be the driver.

If some of the reports are true there were a number of credit cards in the vehicle and a substantial quantity of foreign currency.....

Tour bus crash kills 1, injures 30 in Prachin Buri
One passenger was killed and 30 others injured in an accident involving a tour bus, a van and a pickup truck on a mountain road in Nadi district early on Monday, police said.

Pol Capt Ponkhan Rattananet, the duty officer at Wang Khon Daeng police station, said the accident occurred about 1.50am at a curve near kilometre marker 210 on Highway 304 in tambon Bupram.

Survivors said the double-decker bus, plying between Ubon Ratchathani and Pattaya, lost its brakes and rammed into a van and a pickup truck travelling in front of it while going down a 45 degree slope.

The bus skidded off the road and overturned and nearly plunged into the ravine. The van also overturned, lying top-down on the road. The pickup truck slid into one side of the road.

One male passenger on the tour bus was killed. About 30 other people in all three vehicles were injured. They were sent to Nadi Hospital in Prachin Buri and Wang Nam Khieo Hospital in Nakhon Ratchasima.

3 killed, 5 injured in collision in Kanchanaburi

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... nchanaburi

KANCHANABURI -- Three people were killed and five others seriously injured when a six-wheel truck collided head-on with a pickup truck on a slippery road in Muang district on Monday afternoon.

Pol Capt Manipat Pengkret, duty officer of Latya police station, said the collision occurred in heavy rain about 6.20pm between kilometre markers 88-89 on Highway 323 near Moo 5 village in tambon Wang Dong.

The six-wheel truck was running from Sai Yok district, heading for Kanchanaburi town, while the pickup , with eight people on board, was travelling in the opposite direction.

The bigger vehicle overturned and lay on one side after the collision. The pickup was badly damaged.

Three people in the pickup were killed, two of them women. They were not carrying any identity documents. Their bodies were taken to Phahon Phonphayuhasena Hospital in Kanchanaburi.

Appears to be a straight section of road, but wet and slippery, so the hazard lights did not prevent the "accident".

Can that be right?

Has anyone travelled on Highway 304? Is there a section of it with a 45 degree slope?

Some of these "accidents" are unbelievable:

6 die in cement mixer-6-wheeler collision in Trat

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... on-in-trat

TRAT -- Six people died when a cement truck ploughed across traffic lanes and slammed into a truck filled with highway officials Thursday morning in Muang district.
Police and rescue teams around 9am rushed to the accident on Sukhumvit Road in tambon Tha Prik to find four people sprawled on the pavement, one already dead and three in critical condition. Two later died at Trat Hospital.

About 20 metres away, a cement truck was found along with the bodies of its driver and a passenger. A six-wheeled truck belonging to the Leam Klud office of the Highways Department also was found demolished with one body recovered from the back.

Initial investigation revealed that the six-wheeler was carrying seven officials to work in Muang district. The mixer rolled across a lane to impact the truck. Those in the back of the smaller truck were thrown into the road.

Pol Lt Pitsanu Khaowong, a case officer at Trat police, said he would question witnesses again to determine the root cause of the accident.

Yes, I remember it well. And in typical Thai fashion many of the burnt out hulks were dragged around the corner, and still there at least a year after it happened.

Daily road carnage update ...

Van crash leaves 16 injured
Fifteen students and a teacher were slightly injured yesterday after the van they were travelling in fell off the road and overturned after clashing with a pickup truck in Serng Sang district of Nakhon Ratchasima province.

The incident happened on the road from Serng Sang in Nakhon Ratchasima to Buriram.

The student van of Purita school came out of the secondary road from Prachathai housing estate to the main road unaware of a pickup truck with fish and shrimp loads was coming on the side in high speed.

The two vehicles collided, and the van fell to the roadside ditch and overturned.

Nobody in the truck was hurt but all in the van were injured.

They were later rescued by Hook 41 Highway rescuers and admitted to Serng Sang hospital.

All were treated for bruises except three for cuts on the heads. But they were all allowed to return home after the primary treatment.

It's looking left that I still can't get used to. The last 2 times leaving Makro, I've almost been broadsided. It's mini-buses, cars and motorcycles that are the danger there.
