An import permit is required for import of a second hand car unless you are a Thai who has lived abroard for som time and are returning to live in Thailand. All details are available at Thai Custom´s home page.
I am sorry but I do not have the link available since I am not using my own computer.

Here is the link for personal vehicles:

A lot of informations, so the tax seemes to be between 188 and 328 % of the value of the car.

The "value of the car" is the stumbling block. It is based on what customs decide it might be worth, and has nothing to do with what the owner may think it is worth, OR any evidence that he may provide that shows what it MAY be worth, or cost, where he is bringing it from. And do not believe anyone that tries to tell you otherwise!pitsch wrote:Here is the link for personal vehicles:

The Customs Department hold regular auctions in Bangkok of cars seized for non payment of duty. Ferrari's, Lamborghinis, Porsche`s etc., plus dozens of normal everyday models. It is no secret that if some "official" takes a liking to your car, then the duty calculation will just keep increasing. The only way around paying exorbitant duty and taxes, is to completely dismantle the car and bring it in as spare parts and "scrap", over a period of time, and even then the parts will have to look like "scrap", or you will end up paying "inspection" fees!
Unless you have connections in the higher echelons of the Customs Department, along with unlimited cash, just forget about it. Or you like subjecting yourself to this .
