Appreciate the last two posts, just a last question, what kind of visa is necessary since I regularly arrive with a tourist 30-day visa and managed to get the one-year (temporary) permit?

Hi JuiceLover,

I'm afraid I can't answer your question.

I am on a Non-Imm "O" visa (retirement) and obviously that worked! :D

If you managed to obtain a one year licence (on a 30 day torist visa?) last time, then I would hope you would have no problem getting the 5 year extension.

I'm assuming that you must have had a residency letter from Immigration the last time, so if you get that again, along with the rest of the documentation previously mentioned as required ..... should be no problem but ....

Good luck

This came up in a thread recently. 1 year extension only on tourist visa, unfortunately.

I went to the Pranburi office this morning (Monday) to get my 1 year license renewed for 5 years. I am living here on a "retirement" visa. Based on my experience today, I would suggest NOT going first thing in the morning when they open. There must have been 50 Thais ahead of me when I walked in at 8:40am. When I finally got out of there at 10am there was no one waiting.

I was not required to watch a video though I could see many Thais doing just that. Another bit of info I learned is that window #9 is for new licenses and window #10 is for renewals like mine. If you are like me and can not read Thai script this will save you from the mistake I made by getting in the wrong queue.

^^ You are welcome. As far as I am aware you would need to get the necessary paperwork organised from your embassy in BKK and then the Tessabahn in HH can process the paperwork. It's a bit of a hassle but not complicated. The HH Tessabahn will happily provide you with sample paperwork and and in my case an apology that they could not complete it all locally.

I still only have a yellow book for my apartment in BKK and have avoided the small problem of getting a yellow book for our home in HH. One day!!!

Hi Bristolian. I think you can only appear in one yellow book so it might be interesting if you tried to do a transfer of address fromm BKK to HH. When Thais transfer details between blue books it's all pretty simple. Yellow book might be a bit more difficult. Of course it might also be really simple.

it is time for me to renew my one year temp. license for a five year license, both auto and motorcycle.

I have two letters from immigration, two letters from medical, passport with retirement "visa". i am reading here people are not taking "written" computer test for renewal, just watch video, reaction test for license. just wondering if i need to study for the written test. I am asking now because things change so fast in Thailand. thanks.

When I renewed my bike licence last week at Cha Am there was no video to watch or reaction test - Just dropped my documents off with the old licence, come back in two hours to have my photo taken and got my new licence. Don't have a car licence so maybe it's different in that case.

I think youre right about the reaction test is only for car,in Pranburi you just wait in line and you get the photo taken and off you go no need to come back until next time a renewel is needed.
