Thai Driver's License Renewal
Thai Driver's License Renewal
My first Thai driver's license which was good for one year is set to expire. Can anyone tell me what I need to bring to the license bureau in Pranburi to renew it? Do I have to take the tests again? Thanks in advance.

There is a full description of the process here: viewtopic.php?f=44&t=17593

Re: Thai Driver's License Renewal
Thanks for the link but that is what's needed to get your first drivers license. I have one already. I understand the first one is good for a year and then when you renew you get a 5 year. I am wondering what I need to bring to renew my license and if I need to do anymore tests.
Re: Thai Driver's License Renewal
As far as I know the documents are the same, you just don't have to take the test again.
Maybe someone that has done it recently at Pranburi can confirm.

The documents required are:
The expiring licence
Your passport
Proof of residence
Medical Certificate
Tests do not have to be taken again

To get Thai license,is there a need to take test if you have a full international licence covering car and bike.

No need for theoretical or driving tests - you only have to do the reaction, orientation and colour blindness tests

No medical cert required for renewal.

Beg to differ - my Thai gf extended her licence a couple of weeks ago and was told she had to go and get a medical cert.poosmate wrote:No medical cert required for renewal.

We also needed medical certificates a month ago

I renewed 5 year last month in Pranburi and was armed with medical cert. Told it was not needed so still have it.

Fair enough - so the moral of the story is, I think, to take a medical cert with you to be sure, to be sure
After all, it only costs 30 baht from the doctor's surgery near the main Pranburi traffic light junction!!

As did a Norwegian friend of mine last month. Requirements may differ from hour to hour and official to official, but experience suggests it's better to have too much paperwork than too little.barrys wrote:Beg to differ - my Thai gf extended her licence a couple of weeks ago and was told she had to go and get a medical cert.poosmate wrote:No medical cert required for renewal.

We were told quite categorically that the medical certificate needs to be no more than 1 month old.
This is the way

To renew your license, do you have to be there before 8:30 am (same as when getting the license in the first place) or can you arrive later?

Pretty sure you can turn up anytime during opening hours, although you might beat the queues if you do get there by 8.30.dotx wrote:To renew your license, do you have to be there before 8:30 am (same as when getting the license in the first place) or can you arrive later?
