Red tape, loud music blamed for fatal train-bus crash

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... -bus-crash

Officials on Monday blamed Sunday’s fatal collision of a train and double-decker bus in Nakhon Pathom province Sunday on red tape and loud music.

Deputy Transport Minister Ormsin Chivapruck said on Monday that the crash occurred at a grade crossing where the Department of Rural Roads had installed automatic barriers, but they were inoperative because the department had yet to deliver completed paperwork to the State Railway of Thailand (SRT).

He ordered the department this week to activate 20 such completed barriers stalled by red tape across the country.

Police spokesman Detnarong Sutthicharnbancha said on Monday that an initial investigation found that loud music had been playing on the bus before it was hit by the train. Police would decide if the music had been playing on the bus before it was hit by the train. Police would decide if the music made it impossible for the driver to hear the train or if reckless driving was involved, he said.

He also said that the SRT management was trying to educate people living near trains to not build illegal crossings for their own safety, but they remained a problem.

Isn't the new crossing at Hua Hin Soi 2 a bit like that? At first glance it looks like a working level crossing, but then you notice that the barrier booms haven't been installed yet, and maybe the lights don't work yet either. It's like a trap waiting for someone to cross thinking it's safe though a train might becoming.
Looks like it's finished and working now. Coincidence I suppose.

Surgical team killed in van-truck crash

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... ruck-crash

CHACHOENGSAO - Four members of a cosmetic surgery team were killed and another seriously hurt when a cargo truck rear-ended their van in Bang Pakong district late on Thursday night.

The crash happened near kilometre marker 44 on the Burapha Vithee expressway in tambon Bang Wua, said Pol Maj Bunsarit Chuaychoo, a traffic inspector at Bang Pakong police station. It was reported around 10-30 pm.

Police sent to the scene found an overturned white van with a Bangkok licence plate in the left lane of the expressway. A six-wheel cargo truck with an Ayutthaya licence plate had crashed into the concrete barrier bordering the right lane. Another damaged car was behind the truck.

Three women were found dead on the expressway. Another woman was seriously hurt. A dead man was found on the ground beneath the expressway.

Police said the van was carrying a six-member surgical team returning from Pattaya to Bangkok. It had developed engine trouble and the driver parked the vehicle in the left lane.

The passengers were waiting outside the van when a truck travelling in the left lane ran into the rear of it. Another car then rear-ended the truck.

The crash killed three women standing near the van and seriously injured a fourth. The force of the collision threw a man off the expressway. Only one passenger was unhurt.

Fatal pile-up in Bangkok video from dash cam

http://www.bangkokpost.com/vdo/thailand ... k-thailand

A pickup truck driver was killed in a seven-vehicle crash on Bangkok’s Suwinthawong Road after a speeding sedan tried unsuccessfully to cut in front of him.
Both vehicles ended up in the opposite lane and were hit by a 10-wheeler in the Monday morning accident.

The pickup driver was thrown from his vehicle during the collision and died at scene. Other injured motorists were taken to hospital.
Internet users who saw the video mostly criticised the sedan driver for reckless driving and "indirectly murdering" the pickup driver.

Chonburi to Krabi is a fair distance for (I'm assuming) one driver to do..the likelihood of him falling asleep at the wheel, or at the very least being drowsy may come into play here.

Four burn to death in crashed van, 7 badly hurt

"NAKHON SI THAMMARAT - Four passengers were killed and seven other people injured when the passenger van they were travelling in hit a pickup truck and motorcycle, then a pole, and burst into flames in Tha Sala district on Wednesday evening.".....

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... badly-hurt

EDIT: I bet it was one of those NGV conversions, perhaps a "do it yourself" conversion. The fire seems way too intense and encompassing for normal gasoline

This one makes me chuckle given that Thailand is 362 per 1 million people as of 2015. The people in Europe don't know how good they have it! :D Pete

Rail Crossing Accident

Post by Big Boy »

I'm hearing unsubstantiated reports of a fatal rail crossing accident at Wai Sai Dai on the way to Cha-Am this morning. Report says 4 dead at the scene.

Report source is next door neighbour, who claims to have actually witnessed it. Does anybody know any more?
