Maybe a couple of run-off sections (don't remember their name) for use in the event of brake failure.
Good idea, although more often than not, it’s driver failure that’s the problem!!

Keystone cops at it again ....

Two highway police probed over accident at random checkpoint
The Highway Police Division in Ayutthaya has summoned two highway police for clarification after their random traffic checkpoint on the Asian Highway had allegedly caused a traffic accident that injured a passenger.

The action by the highway police division came after a video clip of the accident, which happened at about 3.30pm on Sunday (Jan 28), posted by Kotchakorn Mingboon went viral on the social media.

The clip taken from his car camera showed clearly how the accident happened.

In the clip, he said two highway police manning the flying checkpoint on the Asian Highway in Bang Pa-in district were seen coming into the way of the car which is ahead of his car.

The interruption of the two highway police waving their hands down as if to stop the car forced the driver of the first car to brake instantly, he said.

He said he could stop his car in time but another truck following behind couldn’t make it and rammed at the rear of his car, causing injury to his girlfriend on the front seat.

The impact of the crash also caused his car to ram at the rare of the Honda sedan in front of him.

Regardless whether the police caused the accident by their actions (and that's a YES), a following vehicle should always allow enough distance to be able to stop in an emergency.
A double whammy in that the cops acted irresponsibly and the truck driver was 'fender bending'.

I think that "fender bender" was a "tailgater"! As most of them are. :guns:

There is a video posted in the Bangkok Post. The idiot cop was standing in the middle of the road, again, like a lot of them do. At one stage I thought the woman driver of the white car was going to hang one on the keystone cop!

A bit more about this. "Wasn't our fault" say the cops.

Highways police accused of causing road accident

https://www.bangkokpost.com/learning/ea ... d-accident

Two highways policemen have been bombarded with criticism for allegedly failing to exercise due care and causing a traffic accident in which two people received minor injuries over the weekend.

The social media outcry erupted after Orawee Choochuen, 27, a musician, posted a video clip on Jan 28 of a crash that involved three vehicles, and demanded to know if two highways policemen should be held responsible for the collisions.

In the clip, a highway policeman is seen in the middle of the road signalling for a 10-wheel truck which was following Ms Orawee's car to stop. She then crashed into the rear of the vehicle in front.

She explained that her car had been hit in the back by the truck, which failed to brake while she was slowing down, the driver apparently distracted by the police.

"The police say it isn't their fault. They were doing their job. How am I supposed to feel about this?" she wrote.

The clip was shared widely on social media and led to heavy criticism of the highways policemen whose actions appeared to have placed motorists in danger.

In an update posted on Monday morning, Ms Orawee said the truck driver had been charged with reckless driving causing an accident and injuries to others. He was also fined 400 baht.

The case was handled by Bang Pa-in police in Chiang Rak Noi sub-district.

Ms Orawee claims she asked why the police left out "the cause of the accident" in their report and was told that it was not needed.

Kerdpol Kaewkerd, a lawyer, said on Monday that Ms Orawee could hold the highways police liable because they failed to take into consideration the safety of motorists while doing their job.

Pol Maj Khunkhao Phosuwan, inspector of Highways Police 1 station in Ayutthaya, said the two officers had been told to report to the Highways Police Division about the incident.

13 Chinese tourists injured in van crash in Phangnga
Thirteen Chinese tourists were injured, nine seriously, when a passenger van they travelled in from Phuket airport to a hotel in Phangnga crashed into a utility pole and overturned on Wednesday morning (Jan 31).

The incident happened on Phetkasem highway near distance marker 807 in Thai Muang district at about 7am.

Rescuers from several charity foundations and volunteers used equipments to break open glasses and doors to pull the trapped and injured tourists out and sent them to nearby hospital in Thai Muang district.

The driver Suchart Aduman, 52, who was slightly hurt in the crash, said that he drove 13 Chinese tourists from Phuket airport to a Khao Lak hotel in Phangnga’s Takua Pa district, Phuket Gazette reports.

But as he drove near Km 807 marker on the highway, heavy fog fell across the mountain area making poor visibility.

He said a motorcycle instantly cut into his way, forcing him to swerve to avoid hitting the vehicle.

The sudden turn of the wheels caused the van to lose balance and crashed into a roadside utility pole and flipped over to the roadside ditch.

All his passengers were injured but nine in serious condition.

Mr Suchart was booked for reckless driving by police.

Those utility poles are always getting in the way of drivers trying to get out of the fog as quickly as possible!

Two illegal workers killed, 13 hurt in pickup crash

https://www.bangkokpost.com/news/genera ... recent_box

SA KAEO: Two Cambodian illegal workers were killed and 13 others hurt when the pickup truck they were travelling in veered off the road and overturned in Aranyaprathet district early on Friday.

The fatal crash occurred on the bypass road opposite Wat Pa Khao Suankwang forest temple in tambon Ban Mai Songsai, and was reported to police about 5.30am, said Pol Lt Col Chaiya Maneesut, investigation chief at Aranyaprathet.

Police and rescue workers reported a man and a woman were found dead and trapped in the overturned vehicle. Thirteen others - eight men, four women and a girl - were injured and rushed to a nearby hospital.

All were illegal workers from Cambodia. No travel documents were found on them, police said. The driver, a Thai woman, fled, Thai media reported.

Police investigators learned they had sneaked across the border into Ta Phraya district and were en route to jobs in central Pathum Thani province.

The driver had picked them up around 4.30am. Each migrant paid her 2,200 baht.

Police said the pickup appeared to have been travelling at high speed when the driver lost control and crashed. They were tracking her down. The vehicle was new and had red Sa Kaeo licence plates.

Eight injured in van accident in Chiang Mai
A chartered van taking tourists to Doi Ang Khang ran off the road and flipped, injuring the driver and seven tourists on Monday morning, officials said.

The Pha Muang Taskforce in Chiang Mai's Fang district was alerted to the accident at 9.30am.

Troops were sent to help the accident victims at kilometre marker No 22 of the road to the Doi Ang Khang agricultural experiment station in Tamb Mae Ngon in Fang.

One of the tourists was severely injured and was rushed to the Fang Hospital.

The driver and the rest of tourists were taken to the Ang Khang Hospital.

The driver said his van developed a brake malfunction when it was coming down the hillside road, causing him to lose control. The van ran off the road and flipped. He was driving the tourists from Fang downtown to the Ang Khang agricultural station.

Ahh...the old brake BS thing. I love the way they always find an excuse for their incompetence and point the finger elsewhere...he would have run away from the scene if he could have and then turned himself in a couple days later. Gave up public transport a long time ago as it's a whole load of BS managed by idiots.

Another Chinese tour bus crash on notorious Patong Hill
A bus carrying Chinese tourists collided with a car and a motorcycle and then slammed into a barrier at the bottom of Patong Hill on the final turn before reaching the temple at the bottom.

Just before midnight on Tuesday night, Patong police received an accident report. There were 35 tourists in the bus heading to Patong from Phuket Town. When emergency responders arrived to the scene, they found Chinese tourists climbing through emergency windows out of the bus.

Five were injured, including the motorcyclist and four tourists, but injuries were described as minor. An initial investigation by police indicated that the driver, Utain Kladnaka, claimed he had a problem with the brakes.
