16 Indian tourists injured in bus crash in Phuket
Sixteen Indian tourists were injured after a tour bus ferrying from Karon to Kata beach crashed into a concrete barrier in Phuket this morning.

The tour bus was descending a hilly road when it developed brake failure.

As the troubled bus approached a sharp curve, the driver decided to ram the bus to the barrier in bid to stop the bus and prevent it from going down the hill.

The bus flipped over with its side on the concrete barrier.

Rescue workers and police arrived shortly afterwards, and rushed all the injured to Phuket hospital.

Nobody was killed in the incident.

The driver was booked for reckless driving.

Tyre burst! I wonder what the state of the tyre was before it blew. I could hazard a guess!

Multi-truck pileup, fire kills one person injures others

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... res-others

PRACHIN BURI - A 22-wheel trailer truck crashed and exploded in flames, killing one person and injuring three others, in a huge pileup involving many other vehicles in Na Di district on Friday morning.

The crash occurred about 8.40am between kilometre makers 211 and 212 on Highway 304, the Na Di-Wang Nam Khieo route, in Na Di district of this eastern province, Thai media reported.

The road is being widened in that area.

Thairath reported the driver of a 22-wheel trailer truck taking a cargo of tapica flour from Nakhon Ratchasima to Prachin Buri tried to overtake another trailer truck at a curve. He hit a third truck travelling from the opposite direction.

The driver of the first truck claimed his brakes failed. His truck, fuelled by gas, erupted in flames which spread rapidly to the other truck.

The accident caused a major pileup, involving several other vehicles.

According to Thairath, there were eight vehicles involved -  five trailer trucks, one car and two pickup trucks. JS100 traffic radio and INN reported nine vehicles - seven trailer trucks, one car and one pickup truck.

Police called to the scene immediately closed both inbound and outbound lanes of the road, halting all traffic for some hours.

Fire trucks spraying foam finally managed to put out the fire around 10.50am, according to JS100 traffic radio station.
One person was confirmed to have died in the crash and conflagration and three others were hurt, Pol Capt

Thanakhan Rattananet, a duty officer at Wang Khon Daeng police station in Prachin Buri told INN News Agency.

Elderly motorcyclist ignores barrier, killed by train

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... d-by-train

SONGKHLA -- An elderly woman was killed when she drove her motorcycle around a lowered barrier and was hit by a train at a crossing in Hat Yai district on Thursday morning, police said.

Eyewitnesses told police the accident occurred about 10am. The motorcycle was hit by train No.948 (Padang Besar - Hat Yai) at the railway crossing at Ban Khlongya Nua.

The woman, identified as Wanna Saophet, 70, a vegetable vendor at Ban Phru market, drove her motorcycle around one end of the automatic barrier and attempted to cross the rail track.  Many people waiting at the barrier on their motorcycles yelled out to her not to go. She seemed not to hear them.

The train hit the motorcycle, dragging it about 300 metres along the track before coming to a stop. The woman was killed, her body knocked from the bike and landing about three metres from the track.

There was no damage to the train, which continued on to Hat Yai shortly afterward, once the trapped motorcycle was removed.

Two killed, 13 injured in passenger van crash

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/general ... -van-crash

PRACHUAP KHIRI KHAN – Two people were killed and 13 others injured when their chartered van crashed into a roadside tree in Muang Prachuap Khiri Khan district early on Monday.

Police and emergency responders were called to the scene of the crash at kilometre markers 328/800 on Phetkasem Road in Huay Sai subdistrict about 5.30am.

They found an overturned grey Toyota van with Nakhon Si Thammarat licence plates off the side of the southern highway, and a knocked-down tree. The front of the van was severely damaged. The vehicle was carrying 15 people, including the 60-year-old driver Reeb Sanohsode, said Pol Lt Col Sombat Promsa-ard, an investigator at Khlong Warn police station.

The officer assumed the driver fell asleep at the wheel.

Two women passengers were dead in the wreckage. They were identified later as Sudarat Chonlatharn, 33, and Suikanda Islam, 54.  Rescue workers found Mr Reeb and a passenger injured and trapped in the front seats and used a hydraulic ram to extricate them. Mr Reeb was in critical condition.

Eleven other passengers received non-life threatening injuries, seven adults and four children aged between four and 13.

Pol Lt Col Sombat said the van was taking teachers, awarded students and their parents from religious schools attached to mosques in the southern province of Nakhon Si Thammarat to attend a test and workshop at the Islamic Teachers Association in Nonthaburi on Thursday.

The van left Nonthaburi at 11pm on Sunday. All passengers were sleeping when the accident occurred. Shortly before the crash the driver stopped to rest at a petrol station in Kui Buri, which is adjacent to Muang Prachuap Khiri Khan district.

Two Elderly Germans Killed In Cha-Am Motor Bike Accident

A car on its way from Phetchaburi to Bangkok collided with a scooter, killing both German riders instantly.

The fatal accident happened while Sommai Tiamtad, the 30-years-old driver of the car, and his girlfriend, who did not wish to be named, were on their way to go shopping in Bangkok. The white Honda Jazz (registration: 1 กค 377 Bangkok) was speeding down Phetkasem Rd in Phetchaburi’s Cha-Am district when they suddenly hit a scooter.

Eyewitnesses had informed Cha-Am Provincial Police Station of the crash as it took place at 14:20 on Tuesday afternoon. Police quickly dispatched officers and highway police rescue workers to the scene of the accident at kilometre 185+500 near Cha-Am Granite.

“The woman was laying in the middle of the road whereas her husband was thrown to the side of the road,” Pol Lt Adwaripad Chaiyotri said according to the Thai news media Thairath. “We did not find any crash helmets in the area, so we assume they did not wear any,” he added.

Police later identified the couple as Mr Helmut Georg Schmidt (74) and Mrs Anna Tangel (64), both German citizens. The two sustained severe injuries to their heads and had broken limbs, images on the official Facebook page of the highway police rescue show.

An emergency physician from Cha-Am Hospital said that the victims had already been dead when police help arrived.

About 50 metres from the crash site, police found the wrecked Honda Click, registered under ขขว 920 Phetchaburi, which Mr Schmidt and Mrs Tangel were riding. “We’ve asked the driver of the car how the accident happened,” Pol Lt Adwaripad told Thai media. “He said while they were driving at high speed, the scooter changed to the car’s lane without any warning.”

Mr Sommai said he attempted to hit the breaks, but the impact had made them unusable. The scooter crashed into the left front side of the car and damaged the windshield. The German couple was catapulted through the air and landed face down on the hard asphalt of the road where they died.

Rescue volunteers transported Mr Schmidt and Mrs Tangel to Cha-Am Hospital nearby. “The car also had a dash cam,” Pol Lt Adwaripad mentioned. “We will first view the footage of the accident before we decide if we press charges.”

The dash cam video is on liveleak. Driver was going way too fast. The motorbike rider started a U-Turn from the far left without looking for traffic approaching from behind. The German couple never saw what hit them.

[Mod Edit]Warning - very graphic video.

Accident on nhong plub road

Post by tuktukmike »

Saw an awful accident tonight on nhong plub road by the school, the chap was laying in the middle of the road but was moving .

The lady seemed to have been hit the hardest and from what people said was in a very bad way, they were giving cpr for ages even after the ambulance arrived.

Both are farangs and we're simply crossing the road, problem is nhong plub is like a race track at times.

Really hope she pulls through.
