I've actually seen one of these in the flesh - in Bangkok. Must have been a 'grey' import.
Just don't know why Honda don't do them in Thailand.

For the same reason you don't see them being used as taxis. They don't want the brand name to look lo-so.
If I remember right, many years ago a couple of them were actually briefly put into service as taxis. The agent had such a fright they bought them all back...

Well - I've heard this one before.
But it doesn't make sense.

You can see Benz's all over Europe as Taxis - so why not Honda's.

I recall using Honda taxis in Taipei 10 years ago.

To me, Honda are missing an opportunity to sell - and that must be stupid..............

Anyway - back to pickups

Has anyone ever seen an independent road report or review on the Honda Ridgeline?

FYI, there's a V-6 Accord in the Royal fleet. Perhaps one reason not used as taxis. Pete

Forgot to mention that this Honda pick up truck only comes with a 3.5L V-6. That would put the price somewhere near 2.4-2.6 million due to taxes for petrol engines over 3.0. The 2.4L Accord is around 1.6. The 3.5 V6 Accord is around 2.6 million. If Honda wanted to sell the pick up here, 2.4 petrol or a new diesel would be needed. Pete

Hmmm.... 17 pages. Not bad for a simple question :D

Anyway, in conclusion, hopefully a final report about the nice Ford Dealership in Hua Hin.

While at sea last week, I received a text. It is time to change your red plates for white plates. Please come in on Monday.

Monday came along, and I duly went down to the showroom, thinking that I would get my 2,500 Baht deposit on the red plates back. Number plates were exchanged, and I was called to the counter. I signed the bit of paper to say that they had done the job, and waited for my cash. Eventually, I was asked how I would like my money, bank transfer or cash. Thinking I could fill up with diesel on the way home, I opted for cash. OK, please come back in 3 days - not a problem, I would be passing on the way to Makro.

Called in yesterday to collect my money. The cashier, after wading through piles of paperwork, eventually pulled out my file. Pinned to the outside was a cheque :? But we were told that we would be getting cash. No, it is a cheque.

I gratefully took the cheque.

Took the cheque to the bank to pay it in this morning ............... sorry sir, they haven't written it correctly. We can not accept it.

Straight back to Ford, pointed out their error. The cashier looked at the cheque in disbelief. It took them about 30 minutes to write me another cheque :banghead:

Hopefully, that is the last episode in the long, drawn out saga of how not to buy a car in Thailand. The car is still fantastic, and it was worth the trauma :D

The Ranger seems like an excellent choice. It was an attractive roomy truck, that I think Thais will like also.

I visited the HH Ford dealer, and while their service bay is nothing like Toyota's, the product, particularly the 3.2 WildTrak, appeared dominating, far and away superior to anything else out there. besides the looks, interior, and features that come standard, like limited slip, back-up camera, and the electronics, it has a 5 cylinder turbo diesel that is a torque monster.

I think that you will find that the engine you refer to is a V6, not a 5 cylinder.

That is a stump puller with that kind of power down low. Should be great for towing.

For maintenance HH Ford's area is outback under a lean-to, whereas Toyota has was what you'd typically expect to see for a dealership service area. I would still go for Ford though in this case.

Yes, apologies! I am getting it confused with the 3.0 litre V6 now used in a range of cars including Land Rover, Jaguar and some others. More confusing in that Land Rover have moved away from their own 5 cylinder TDi. It seems that the only other car using this 5 cyclinder is a Ford Transit Van!
