Road Markings at Soi 88 Railway Crossing

Post by Big Boy »

I've noticed over the last couple of days that road markings are being painted at this crazy junction.

In the UK, I would have no problem understanding their meaning. I know this is a similar question to my previous roundabout question, but do the markings have any meaning here in Thailand? I ask because I go that way several times each day, and I've noticed absolutely no difference in the way people drive there.

In the UK, the meaning would be that traffic on Soi 88 takes priority, and other traffic should give way. Personally I never go all the way on Soi 88, but have never given way yet.

Is there just a bit of spare cash in the Tessebahn coffers, so they've sent few guys out to keep them busy (I've also noticed some fairly major pot hole in Soi 94 being repaired)?

Don't know about the markings but I found a quite entertaining read about Thai traffic.
Also answers the question in the roundabout thread perfectly:
Roundabouts: At roundabouts the traffic to the right has priority. However, it is doubtful that local drivers are aware of this as there always appears to be confusion when approaching or negotiating a roundabout.

I have not seen the road markings at 88 being done, but doubt they will ever be used the way they should. It may be being done to coincide with the court house further up 88 as they are filling in the pot holes outside the building and have cleared the land infront.

I walked home that way after JW's quiz last night, and took the opportunity for a better look.

I've changed my mind. They've either put a bit more paint down, or I didn't see the markings correctly before. My 'UK' understanding now would be that everybody has to give way :?

I think I'll just carry on the way the Thais are - biggest vehicle wins.
