Where do you get that info from, Just this week I asked Immigration and was told it is compulsory. A copy of the book can be an old document, the letter is to confirm you still have a valid visa.
you can just take a copy of the visa and the yellow book I just did that 3 weeks ago.

Is that not the purpose of presenting your passport?

As is the norm in Ting Tong Land everything is up to the discretion of the person behind the desk, that is I why I take a file with copies of all kinds so I am not told to go and make copies.

Yes, that was my thought - if you'd asked the BIB at the desk next door, you'd have probably been given a different answer also.

I did my 5 year renewal for car and motorbike today 31 July 2017 at Pranburi DLT. Arrived at 07:45 with copies of everything previously mentioned in this thread by all parties whether needed or not.
The requirements as of TODAY as a new system was implemented 30 July 2017 is as follows:
Letter from Immigration
Copy of house book
Copy of passport
Copy of passport visa page.
Copies of front and back of driving license.
One Thai form is provided at the desk, you only need to sign and give your phone number, they complete the rest.
A full set is required for each license.
Take a color blindness test.
Take a hand/eye/foot coordination test. It did not seem to matter if you passed as no one registered any results.
Watch a two hour Thai video with English subtitles.
Pay 1,060 Baht to cover two licenses, 6Baht extra if you want a plastic cover per license.
Have photo taken and new licenses issued.

Left at 2pm however there was around a two hour delay as they could not get the new system to print the licenses.

Apart from a copy of the Tabien Baan, that is no different to the procedure when I renewed my licences in January.

I don't understand the reason for a copy of the Tabien Baan as immigration will have already seen that to provide your address letter.

Oops I forgot to mention get there at 8am as by 8:15 the place is full and they have a sign up (in Thai) stating only 30 applications processed per day.

Maybe the 30 max is aimed at new licence applications which is a 2 day affair and I believe an appointment is required. Certainly wasn't that busy in January.

Steve's list 4 posts above yours looks pretty comprehensive. The only addition to that would be a medical certificate. If you have a Yellow Book, that will negate the need for the letter from Immigration.

Drivers licence renewal

Post by SydneyGuy »

Guys

i have to renew my Thai motorcycle and drivers licence at Pranburi in the next 2 weeks.
I already have:

2 copies of residence letter from immigration
2 copies of passport ID page
2 copies of passport visa page
2 copies of international drivers licence
2 copies front and back of my Australian licence

i am going to get 2 medical certificates early next week.
Anything else i will need to renew my licence for the 5 year period?
2 hour video sounds like a real hoot!!

You don't need the last two, IDP and Australian licence if you're renewing a Thai licence.
You do of course need your old Thai licences.
It used to be that you had to wait until your Thai licence had expired but I've heard that is no longer the case. It is beneficial to wait until your licence has expired (you have up to 1 year to renew) as it usually expires on your birthday. Renewing it after your birthday gets you 5 years from your next birthday giving you almost 6 years.
Good luck with the video and try not to laugh! I walked out after the first 15 mins and waited outside.

See my post above, get there early as they only process 30 applications a day and that number is filled by 9am,
No medical required for renewals. Go one day after expiry and you get an extra year thereby giving you 6 years not 5.

Guys

Confirming that i had the original 2 year licence, went to Pranburi to renew the licence:
Medical certificate is required for this, but not if you are renewing your 5 year licence.

No video to watch, just the documentation listed in the previous post, total cost was 760 baht for 5 years for both motorcycle and car licence.

Arrived at 8am and was literally served straight away, left by 9.45am (note i took a friend with me that was applying for his first Thai licence (2 years), he was asked to sit and watch the video for 1 hr, but was allowed to leave after 10 mins:)
