Hua Hin Golf Gossip

Post by golfhelp »

Hua Hin can, without doubt, be considered as a first class golf destination and as a golfer find it difficult to find out what is happening on the local golf scene. Such information as to which course is in good/bad condition, clubhouse facilities, which course is having its greens sanded and so on, news of our local professionals, were to find the best caddies, local golf stories and personalities, green fees, competitions and hopefully much more. Golf 'Gossip' is being prepared and will be a vehicle to give golfers both local and visiting views and help of Hua Hin golf. Really hope it proves useful and fun.

Just to add that 'golf gossip' will be a new feature on HHAD to keep golfers updated on the latest golf news and events for the Hua Hin area.

Feel free to ask your golfing questions on this thread and our resident pros will assist.

Seve in the mid 80s asked by a stupid reporter to describe his 4 putt on 15 at Augusta - "Is simple..... I miss, I miss, I miss... I make"

Played Banyan on Friday - its absolutely beautiful, not too long from the white tees but still tough and fair, awesome condition and just the most fantastic views. Very different style to anything else here and gets some strong winds - bloody great for all of us golfists.

When it opens give it a try - not sure when the grand opening will be but looking forward to my next visit.

JW,
I had a look around last month. Beautiful, but the road in was a pain.
Has that improved?

Difficlt one, but to sell your clubs can suggest the following: - John Wither's Mongkol driving range, an advert in the Observer, your own advert in bars such as Bernies (home of the society) or the Sabai bar both have numerous golfers passing by, or pehaps this golf gossip page shoud post a list of clubs, will you send details and price?

New clubs, again have a word with John he is an agent for Cobra, Cleveland and Titleist, and he is having an exhibition on the 29th(?) please check golf gossip. Bangkok Thaniya Plaza in Silom road is very popular. there are numerous small shops in Hua Hin selling clubs but beware of copies, although not all are bad. Custom golf at Hua Hin golf tours shop may be an answer too.

Hope that helps

Banyan is scheduled for October opening - not sure the date yet.

Sorry Richard - but your old Yonex left hand are gonna be worth next to nothing :(

Going back to fake clubs - if your looking for budget clubs - maybe 10-12000 baht your much better off going to Thanya Plaza and getting a real set of second hand irons - fakes in my opinion are not worth anything. If you see an impact shot with fake clubs the amount of head deflection (due to the shaft mostly) makes it a fluke to hit a straight pure shot.

I went to Banyan two months ago and was told that an investor had said that the work on the new tarmac road would be started the next day or so.
The clubhouse was due to open on 1st July ( now scheduled October) so that is also a problem.
I also do not see the anticipated thousands of tourists flocking to rent the houses from buyers who were guaranteed rental returns, and so the local residents may be more important than the investors may have been led to believe.
However the course has been rated very very good by all those I have spoken too that have played it.
It just remains to be seen how long it will take for the green fee package to be amended and be more in line with the competition - remember Black Mountain last year?
I do wish Banyan well.

PET,

Good points there - especially regarding green fees. Banyan should be walked - it really is a great experience - carts are very commercial and its a shame if your almost made to take one. Granted some courses its 100% necessary - several in Pattaya couldnt be walked sensibly, but a great deal of the pleasure of playing Banyan is getting close to the waterfalls etc and taking in those views and breezes.

Spot on JW.
I've got this Taylor Made driver. I saw it in a shop years ago I fell in love with the look and I wanted it. The professional at the time, who knew me, had given me a few lessons and even played with me once, suggested that it might not be right club for my swing.
"Try it out first".
No way and I havn't played golf much since then.
Everyone needs a professional to assess their swing.
I'm a hacker, by the way, who'd love to get back out on the courses again. I can't imagine a better day.
