I'm happy to explain the rules - they're very easy - and do the points tally at the end."

The first thing about "stableford" is all Greek to me!! I'm about to try to make some sense of it by googling the term.
Will there still be the fun element???

So, here's a little report on the day.
8 of us turned up, as expected, at Monkol driving range. Namely:
Lomu
buksida
Mrs buksida
Barrys
clive x2 (Dave)
Adrian
Beachyhead
Some of us hit a few practice balls and then it was bacon sarnies and coffee - Lomu stuck to the Chang.
We made it to Springfield in good time and the course wasn't really that busy when we teed off at just after 12.30pm. Play wasn't quick and it took us 5 hours to get round, but we didn't hold anyone up.
We all decided that a competition wasn't a good idea. We were there for the day out and some golf.
I can only highlight some of the spectacular moments that took place in my group.
Clive broke his 5 iron on a tree root somewhere deep in the jungle on the back nine. Buksi just had to have a go off the pro tee on the long par 3 17th. Not a bad shot and after his chip he had a 20 footer for par - I think he 3 putted!!
Buksi again with his approach to the island green on the par 5 18th - after at least one ball in the water. His last effort was amazing - topped from about 100 yds, the ball did ducks and drakes over the water, hit the concrete siding and somehow managed to end up on the green. He actually was turning away in disgust until two caddies said he'd made it. I think he 3 putted again.
Dave is a useful golfer and hits the ball really well off the tee. Unfortunately, he was always that one club short with his approach shots otherwise he'd have scored really well.
Lomu played reasonably with his new irons, but putted like an idiot. I must have had 4 three putts and one 4 putt. Horrific.
I heard that the star of the other four ball was Mrs buksida, but as always she plays down her ability. Reports suggested that Beachyhead hit some great shots, including one off the tee to about 2 feet on one of the front 9 par 3s - I believe he 3 putted. Only joking, I think he got a birdie.
Adrian was last seen fending off tigers in the jungle around the 13th and barrys had a smile from ear to ear after his first game for about 9 months.
Anyway, it was a good day out and we didn't let the side down with slow play etc. Hopefully, we can all get together again next month - with some others - and repeat the exercise
