With green fees going through the roof, any way out?
With green fees going through the roof, any way out?
Golf courses in Hua Hin are confidently rising their prices. I heard that Palm Hills is now 3.5k++, but tee off in the mornings is never quite booked, so you always find a slot...
Meaning people don't pay these prices anymore.
Well there is the Palm Hills past 3 p.m. deal and the Thaigolfer Card - and joining local expats for reduced fees.
Are other golfers here put off by the inflation? What to do?
Best,
D.

Become a Ninja then play at night when the course is closed.

A result of Thai logic? Bookings going down, so prices have to be raised to maintain revenue?
There should definitely be price differences between the courses, based on quality. If B. Mountain can get away with 3 500, and P.Hills tries the same, it is off my itinerary.
I bring a group of 32 golfers to HH every year, and the courses will this year have a choice between 135 000 Baht for 2 rounds for my group - or nothing at all. And I will certainly make it very clear to them. In addition to greenfee, we spend a lot on buggies, proshopping, and lunch after the rounds, possibly another 25-40 000 Baht per round. So 2 rounds on any given course generates a gross income of about 200 000 Baht for the owners. If they don't want them, fine with me!
Took my group to Panurangsi and Dragon Hills last year. Bus for two days, 2 greenfee and 2 caddifee, hotel at DH with buffet dinner and breakfast. Total cost per pax 4 150 Baht!! A lot cheaper than 2 rounds around Hua Hin!!

Kaeng Krachan - 750 baht, not busy, maybe the greens aren't quite as good as I remember Palm Hills but good enough for 1/4 the price. I think caddies are 200 and buggies 200.
Re: With green fees going through the roof, any way out?
It is quite amazing to see courses matching prices with Black Mountain and hoping to get the same kind of prices. I guess if BM manages to fill it slots then there's a trickle down effect where people have to find a place to play.
The reality is that courses in Hua Hin are still cheaper than in Phuket and they are managing to get enough players there. I suppose if you can get the same revenue with less people, it makes it easier for them and allows for growth. It's a bit naive to think that they will cater to locals if they can make more money otherwise. It's the same story for resort golf all over the world. It's frustrating but the same thing goes on everywhere...
I've given up on Hua Hin in the high season, I'm content to go to cheaper places until they lower their prices in low season.
Unfortunately, I noticed in a golf festival advert for 2013 that Sea Pines wasn't on the list of participating courses. I hope that they will continue to participate as it is my favorite course in Hua Hin at that price.

The whole situation is silly with the green fees around this area. Kaeng Krachan is I believe 900 inc caddie, D. Hills is less and R. Ratchaburi is same. These are really good value but a bit farther to travel. The tour agents aren't so keen to organise trips to these courses because they can't make much profit on the green fees. Better to organise your own group, sharing a minibus. You have to watch for the Koreans though, who play 36 holes a day at D. Hills and R. Ratch. The new 9 holes at Kaeng Krachan is brilliant and the course is only an hour away. I am sure is someone organised tours to Kaeng Krachan, then they would do good business and give the golfers a good alternative to the silly prices here.

Courage is grace under pressure and when circumstances change you change your mind.

JG posted the 2012 list, but PET topped that by having the original 2009 list !!
Normally, the list of participating clubs doesnt come out until may or june - along with any exceptions.

I like Kaeng Krachan and would be happy to hook up or transport (chip in for the fuel) with anyone wishing to play.heartofmidlothian wrote:The new 9 holes at Kaeng Krachan is brilliant and the course is only an hour away.
