There is, and I have done - again thanks. Also one point was that the speed of the plane is shown in Nautical - I (probably naively) thought this was only for ships?

Not sure how accurate the readings are, but there seem to be quite significant changes in temperature and ground speed, whilst the altitude is fairly stable (+/- 500 ft).

As an aircraft follows the curvature of the earth distance is measured in nautical miles, rather than statute miles.

Solar Impulse 2 leaves Ohio on fuel-free flight

AFP on May 25, 2016, 4:17 pm

Washington (AFP) - The Solar Impulse 2, a solar-powered airplane piloted by Swiss national Bertrand Piccard, successfully flew out of Dayton, Ohio in the dark early Wednesday en route to Pennsylvania, according to a live online feed of the departure.

The slow-moving, single-seat plane with the wingspan of a Boeing 747 contains 17,000 solar cells that power the aircraft's propellers and charge batteries. The panels provide the plane's sole source of energy for the flight.

The flight to the Lehigh Valley International Airport is expected to take 17 hours, organizers said.

Solar Impulse lands in Pennsylvania

"The sun-powered aircraft Solar Impulse has landed in Lehigh Valley, Pennsylvania, after a near-17-hour flight.

The plane began the stage on Wednesday in Dayton, Ohio, travelling 1,044km to reach the East Coast waypoint.

The journey is the 13th leg in a quest that started in Abu Dhabi last year to circumnavigate the globe on zero fuel.".....

^ I heard 90 on the news but it well could be 19, but I think that's not long enough given the speed....we'll see. I haven't seen any print article yet. Pete

EDIT: It was 90 (to 110) so my ears still work properly.

"The Atlantic Crossing

Another multiple-day flight is on its way over the Atlantic Ocean. Bertrand Piccard will be making this first transatlantic solar and electric crossing with zero fuel and zero emissions.
The flight will last between approximately 90 hours and 110 hours, representing the longest distance we have had to fly this year. He took off at 6:30AM UTC, 8:30AM CET and 2:30AM EDT on June 20th from JFK in New York and will be landing in Seville Airport over three days later."

It must have had a good tail wind as reports say it took 70 hours instead of the 90-110 predicted. Pete
