I fly this route a few times each year but usually pay THB40,000 upwards. The very weak ringgit (dropped from 10 to 8 baht) explains a lot of it.
But 25,500 baht is not that far short of £600 so compared to the China Air price, nearly double

Head to Thailand's capital for $571 round trip from LAX on United and ANA

Post by hhfarang »

This is a great deal for anyone wanting to fly from L.A. later this year...

"Round-trip airfare to Bangkok, Thailand, has again fallen into the sub-$600 range, with a $571 ticket on United and ANA from LAX.

The fare, subject to availability, is for departures Mondays-Thursdays between Aug. 21 and Dec. 6, 2017. You may not stay more than 12 months."

Seating Arrangements
Just about all airlines are offering great deals on flights to Thailand. Points to either/and a slump in tourists heading for Thailand but also with the newest planes flying to Thailand it is much cheaper for the airlines to fly, lighter planes use less fuel etc.
On our most recent trip from Australia to Thailand we were advised by the check in staff that the plane was overbooked and that the spare seat we had between my wife and myself would be occupied and that it would be advisable to sit together.
We did this and boarded the plane to find that it was half empty, however, a person was allocated the window seat. He noticed all the empty seats and tried to move, however, the cabin staff said no all the seats were booked.
He was an amiable chap and resumed his seat and we flew off to Thailand on the Dreamliner without any problems, a little cramped as the seats are narrow.
On our return journey the same thing happened at check-in. The plane was overbooked and we would have to sit together.
This time I said no we would take our chances. On board the Dreamliner the same as before, the plane was no where near full and we had a spare seat between us for the whole trip.
However, the couples in front of us and behind us had heeded the advice of the check in staff and had someone occupy the spare seat, in one case a rather large gentleman.
The cabin staff this time were far more amiable and allowed the affected passengers to occupy other empty seats, there were plenty of them.
Just be aware of Thai's policy when checking in and stand your ground and take your chances.

I am not sticking up for Thai, especially Thai in fact!

But a couple of things. The seat allocation is done using a computer program that that is programmed to evenly load the aircraft, more so if that particular flight is carrying a lot of cargo in the hold. Secondly, a record of what bod is in which seat is retained and can be used in the case of an "event", such as a crash, to help identify that bod. Usually it is not a problem to move to an empty seat after takeoff, and to be picky you should return to that seat for landing.

In the case of Thai it is probably more to do with the cabin staff being either unaware of the rules, or just being plain ignorant. The same goes for the check in staff whom are just following what the screen in front of them dictates.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!

Hi does anyone have any recent experience with Turkish airlines? They have some good prices on business class at the moment.

Is Spring 2013 recent? Despite their very bad reviews and tendency to lose luggage, I flew them because it was by far the shortest duration flight from Bangkok to Zagreb. Didn't lose my luggage. Didn't see any evidence ground or flight crew members gave a sh*t about customers. Questions, even simple ones, were brushed off with non-answers. Flight crew engaged in what looked like social conversation actually turned away from passengers attempting to speak with them. Departing Istanbul we loaded onto a bus to go to the plane. 20 minutes later, having gone no where, we went back into the terminal - only to reload 5 minutes later.

I know someone who recently flew with Turkish Airlines in business class and was impressed both with the planes and the lounge in Turkey. No idea about cattle class though which most of us have to suffer.

I flew Turkish Airlines last year to and from Istanbul without any dramas. Had to go landside in Istanbul and needed a baggage trolley for which you need a local 50c coin to release! Took me a while to find someone to change money to get that coin. Also had to buy a visa to get me to the Tarom Airlines check in counter. That was about US$60. Turkish Airlines do not tag baggage through with Tarom. Coming back from Bucharest Tarom tagged my bag to Bangkok.

i fly business about 3 times a year to bkk with turkish

its £600 cheaper than etihad

its not that great trust me and the lounge at istanbul is very overcrowded with poor wi fi and poor food

the middle east airlines is far better but obviously are they £600 better, probably not

but it is so much more comfortable than economy which i have grown to hate with a passion

I flew with Turkish back in March and didn't exactly love it. The outbound flight was OK, despite a two hour delay that almost saw me miss my connecting flight in Istanbul, but on the return leg it was a disaster. The outbound plane from Swampy was delayed due to a wheel needing to be changed, which took around two hours. Then the engine couldn't be started and we were towed to a remote stand away from the main terminal, which took a further hour. Then some superstitious crack-pots said they didn't want to fly on such an unlucky plane and eight people were deplaned and their bags were offloaded, which took another hour.

By the time we reached Istanbul both the connecting flight I was scheduled to take and the later one (the last one that day) had gone so I was forced to stay in Istanbul that night. The airline had a huge queue of people trying to get a hotel from their customer services desk so I jumped in a cab and went to the nearest decent hotel, knowing I could claim on my travel insurance. My luggage was goodness knows where and eventually arrived a couple of days later.

If you think the Thais' chip on their shoulder causes them to lash out unreasonably (the best form of defence is offence, and all that) then you have an education to look forward to in Turkey. Surly, supercilious and ignorant behaviour is a badge of honour for many Turks. Not all, of course, but having been a visitor to Turkey for over 20 years, I've seen the country take a steep backward slide over the past decade.

While none of this is standard and I'm sure I was unfortunate, I got my luggage back and claimed for my costs without too much fuss. However, Turkish Airlines could not give a rat's arse and had no interest in any of my (mild, typically British) complaints or accepting any notion of accountability.

Sure, I only paid £305 for my return flight from Heathrow but like the saying goes, you get what you pay for!

I could not agree less with this statement. I have flown business with Turkish and think it is one of the worst around. wide seats but no full reclining seats, lounge crowded and poorly furnished. In flight service just average. But like someone else said you get what you pay for. You could always try a Chinese airline if you want cheap and not so good

It looks like I was fed the wrong information. I will check back to confirm this as obviously the majority are less than pleased with Turkish Airlines apart from the price. My apologies if I have caused any confusion.

Manchester to Bangkok on Etihad £458, for 8th December 2014, until 21st April 2105
That's a fantastic deal....lol

Aeroflot have always been on the cheap end. However, my guess is that once you've used them, you'll never use them again!
Oh yes. But as I recall Tel you DID use them again for the return flight! Some of us chickened out. But seriously that Bangkok/Copenhagen flight cost could work out well for anyone wanting to do the onward flight from Copenhagen to Manchester for example.
