PM orders quick fix of safety standards after FAA downgrade

http://www.bangkokpost.com/news/transpo ... -downgrade

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha on Wednesday ordered officials to quickly rectify problems with the country’s aviation system after the US Federal Aviation Administration downgraded Thailand safety rating...

He said he had instructed transport authorities to quickly tackle problems that have been left unsolved since international scrutiny of the country's aviation standards began early this year.

Not saying this is for sure, but there could be an element of punishment indirectly for Thailand for the "recent events" from the US and EU on trade subjects to underline the fact that there are consequences with the West for abandoning "normal status" for yet another time.

This might also explain why the 'powers-that-be' have snuggled up to China, because they know there are incoming negatives from their previous benefactors for being so sweeping\authoritarian and doing a 180.

The fishing, airport, human trafficing, shipping port et al things (and also soon the EU will publish their reports too) could all be punishment for what the elites have done here.

Also, the PM's comment the other week in a speech that he might be willing to "Close Thailand" has not helped either. They beat a hasty (Brave Brave Sir Robin style) retreat after a large section of Thais and Foreign business investors said basically "D'fuq".......hmmm.

Sorting out society and combating corruption is fine...but they have been dismal on economic policy, which is the one thing the locals do care about. More so than the social engineering that seems to pre-occupy everyone at the moment.

I am not sure where the Ministers confusion comes from. International Civil Aviation Organisation Co-Operative Development of Operational Safety and Continuing Airworthiness Programme South East Asia (ICAO/COSCAP-SEA) has had a Chief Technical Advisor posted to Thailand and domiciled in Bangkok since earlier this year ... Perhaps someone failed to let the Minister know of his presence?

Thai Airways have always been brilliant in every way. Not sure about the never ending notion of safety that comes out of the West. In Australia people on any worksite need to wear hideous fluorescent to be seen. Its over the top and thankfully Thailand isn't like that!

It is nothing to do with Thai Airways, or any other airline.

Govt rushes to solve air safety woes

The US Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday downgraded Thailand's air safety rating after the country was red-flagged in June by the International Civil Aviation Organisation (ICAO) for failing to meet its standards for regulating aviation businesses and granting air operator certificates within a 90-day deadline.

Here is the problem right here:
................A source said OCA personnel who are responsible for inspecting and issuing certificates are split into factions and have failed to cooperate to address air safety problems.

Looks like another replay of the issue of foreign legal practioners operating in Thailand only in this instance the aviation industry. Not sure about a 'quick fix' with 414 aircraft affected and also the matter of aircrew re certification.

Extract from Bangkok Post:
This internal conflict had stalled progress in solving the problems over the past six months, the source said, adding that the original plan to hire foreign experts had also met resistance from these people.
In order to fix this problem, these people had to be transferred to make way for personnel from the air force and foreign experts to step in and tackle the air safety issue, the source said.

Just remember when you fly THAI. The pilots got their jobs the way that everybody else gets their jobs in Thailand. Competance is NOT a factor.
