Hua Hin hotels push airport redevelopment

Post by PeteC »

"Hotel operators in Hua Hin and Cha-am have urged the government to speed up a revamp of the existing airport to develop better links to Hong Kong, Singapore, Malaysia, China and India.".....

Would it be a success? A few years ago Malaysia's Berjaya Air had 3 flights weekly between Kuala Lumpur and Hua Hin, marketed primarily to golfers. After a year or two the service ceased. Before that, more than 10 years ago, Singapore's Silk Air had a test flight from Singapore to Hua Hin. But nothing came of that.

Personally, I hope so. In my opinion, the more transport links, the better. It just has to be marketed right after a proper feasibility study though.

10 years ago, Hua Hin was still little more than a fishing village. The world has moved on.

 I guess we all have different needs. I like the idea of being able to have travel opportunities from Hua Hin rather than have to battle my way to and from Bangkok every time.

I've done all of the touristy things, so it's only when we have visitors that I bother.

IMHO if they're arriving by plane (or ferry), they don't have a car with them, so no extra road congestion. Bar and restaurants, I think we have more than enough to cater for any any increase in visitors. I only see the bright side of this. However, as I said, we all have different needs.

That problem could be solved by a couple of reliable flights daily to the two Bangkok airports for onward bound connections, but alas, that has been tried too with little success. Hua Hin does not need an international airport and I seriously doubt there would be enough traffic to justify it, and it there were, the city's infrastructure probably couldn't handle the new international traffic.

I left Hua Hin partly because of it's rampant development. If the plan was successful, how many of you would stick it out if the Sois were clogged with Asian tourists all the time? :(
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?

Do you really think Hua Hin is so congested that it couldn't handle the extra traffic? Would the Sois be clogged with Asian tourists all the time?

OK, during high season it can become a bit unbearable when the Bangkokians drive down on a long weekend. However, we're talking people arriving by plane, not car. Take the Christmas/New Year couple of weeks out of the equation (probably close to full occupancy anyway), and I've not seen anything like 'full' anywhere in Hua Hin.

It would be nice to hear a businessman's view. If they're honest, I'd bet most would welcome a bit more tourist traffic with open arms. Maybe we wouldn't see so many businesses closing down.

I would think an airlines going to major hubs in Thailand would be preferable. Hua Hin seems to be developing a reputation as a vacation spot, but I would think travelers from other countries would, for the most part, prefer to travel to BKK. Again, IMHO most international travelers (from Asia) like to tour so starting in HH doesn't make a lot of sense.

On the otherhand, reasonable priced flights to/from HH from Thai locations may bring more short term travelers.

Another pertinent point is how fast a future improved rail link to Bangkok might be, if it was anything like a proper high speed train, developing the airport wouldn't really make a lot of sense from a business point of view.

A new airport in huahin might add to more tourists to come, furthermore, this project will take a real long time to happen the same as the Suvannabhumi airport finally is up and running for all people to come which is taken a real sweet time. I am not surprised but hope is a good thing.

There is already a functioning airport in Hua Hin. You have probably passed under the runway several times.

I know of the beautiful Hua hin airport. In the past, I have flown out Hua hin/ Bangkok, 45 minutes flying time, and Hua hin/Samui was taken longer time with two propellers plane. I don't know if The Royal Family would agree to have more busy tarmac for flights in and out right at their backyard. After all, Hua hin, Prachuapkirikhan is a military zone for Thailand, no joke!. A real beauty of Hua hin is nearly gone now, so, I would encourage visitors to see a different area of Thailand. thank you.

Not sure the airport needs any upgrade, just needs more people to use the service when there is an airline willing to set up regular flights.
Used it all the time way back when and flew to Don Muang, picked up the car and could be at the farm in Nakhon Sawan in under 3 hours for some R&R.
Trouble has always been not enough customers.
I've lost my mind and I am making no effort to find it.
