Catastrophic failure on Givi panniers - Ranong Visa-run

Post by Ginjaninja »

Can the lucky sod who found my two Givi panniers on the road between Ranong and Khao Pho please return them to me. As a reward you can keep the Andaman Club dutyfree Irish Whisky and Bacardi Daiquiri..... :(
As you can imagine I had a fun day yesterday... five hours searching, ~250 Kms backtracking, late night return to Hua Hin with an aching arse.... :banghead:

Perhaps you were one of the tail-gating ar*eholes and you have some damaged paintwork on your front-end because you lack the common sense to keep your stopping distances and were wacked by two high-flying 15L hard cases :duck: .... :cuss:

:?
GN.

Edit: above rant not aimed at any forum member of course... cause you're all expert drivers.... just needed the :cuss:

Ouch!! John told me that you'd had a problem with your panniers, but didn't go into any more detail. Sorry to hear that.

What actually happened? Did someone drive into the back of you, or did your panniers just fall off?

Don't try to impress me with your manner of dress cos a monkey himself is a monkey no less - cold fact

Pretty much Takiap......
Sounds pretty stupid but the cases were bought in Thailand and at a fair price (as usual) and I actually confirmed with Givi that they are genuine for another reason. The latch mechanism is operated with a key and you cannot release the key without the pannier being fully locked in place on the bracket which is attached to each rear quarter of the bike. So they are in theory - an idiot proof installation.
I did hit a really big pot-hole that bottomed out the shocks as I was too busy enjoying the Rayong mountain pass heading North East. So at this point the case locking bracket could have broken due to the pot-hole impact. I did circumnavigate back down this road but no sign of the cases. Some opportunist likely stopped their vehicle and nipped out to help themselves. No real big loss but my missus had her Longchamp bag, a mass of designer make-up and her wallet complete with bank card, driving licence and some small money.
We stopped at every police box on the way down and passed on our contact details but not holding our breaths... hardly suprising but there is little communication between police stations and we couldn't get them to radio other posts for help.
Well lessons learnt for me and I'll be sure to follow up with Givi.

Sorry for your loss during this unfortunate event. Just for the record we are talking Ranong here, not Rayong. Maybe mods can correct at least the title.
We are all living in 'the good old days' of the future.

Well spotted!
Yeah Ranong South and not Rayong East.
