Yes Pete, it's amazing what some people can do with some sand. Apparently it's a regular activity on the beaches in Durban, South Africa. The people who do the sculptures do it to earn a living from tips they get from the public. A few images in the below link but they are far from the best I've seen.

I remember a sand sculpture competition here in Hua Hin when I was on holiday a few years ago. The sculptors spent all day creating their masterpieces, only for it all to be washed away by the rain shower from hell. I've never seen it since, which is a real shame.
