Minibus or bus HH to Bkk?

Post by tirlittan »

I heard there are minibuses running between HH and Victory Monument in Bangkok. But I cannot find exactly where in HH these minibuses start from, how often they run, if you need to book a seat in advance (how?) during peak days such as January 1 (are they running on Jan 1?), if there is space for your luggage, etc.

I have used the ordinary (big) bus service HH to Suvarnabhumi which is very good, but I wonder if there are also buses running from HH to Bkk and in that case where in Bkk do they stop.

Are there any up-to-date transportation websites, my googling only lead to years old information?

They run every 20 minutes or so from Victory Monument, you cant book it, just turn up: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=8658

Normal busses run from Sai Dtai southern bus terminal, a fair way out of the city: http://tourismhuahin.com./busses-huahin.php

There are a number of minibuses to BKK. On Petchkasem Road just north of Chomsin Road, another on Sra Song Road just south of the blue bus station to BKK. They are not the only ones.
The 1st Jan is a holiday - Thursday through to Mon 5th. So the minibuses are not likely to be busy but you can book.
Luggage, dependent on size, may be charged a full fare - 180THB or so.
The vehicles leave about every 20 minutes but in reality they just go when full.
And they stop at Victory Monument, a short walk from the BTS.
Make sure you buckle up. Some of the drivers are madmen!!
EDIT Better info above.

I know others have much more experience than me, but my one and only time using a mini-bus a few weeks ago, they wouldn't let me book in advance, and they wouldn't let me book a seat for luggage. The mini-bus/driving was fine, but it was very uncomfortable with our bags on our laps.

Not belting up was not an option.

I would deffently take the airport bus and then some of the option in this link : http://www.suvarnabhumiairport.com/en/1 ... -rail-link

Last time I took a minivan I had to pay 180 baht for my suitcase and the driver was driving like flee a crime scene.

If you have to travel by road between Hua Hin and Bangkok on Jan 1st, allow plenty of time as there will be a lot of traffic, I did it a couple of years ago and it took six hours to get to the airport so either leave early or try and travel on a different day. As for finding the minivan stops, I'm presuming you're not in Hua Hin yet as they're easily spotted, there are at least four operators around the town centre and they all look similar, a couple of white Toyota vans at the kerb and a signboard with times on it.

I would say it all depends if you value your life at all. If you value your life take the Bus to BKK. If you don't value your life whatsoever then by all means take the Minibus, it's a fun crap shoot with your jaba abusing driver going 130kph trying to make it as quick as possible so he can finish his 16 hour shift!!

Actually, take a look at the current active topic "Minivan, bus and road accidents", some of the photos you see will easily answer your question about minibuses...

Minibuses are very crammed. Only enough legroom if you are very small. Tend to drive very fast and scared me so much that I never took one again. Do yourself a favour and take the airport bus and then the rail link into the city. Airport bus is perfect with a large business class seat and I always get a good sleep.

I am over 6' 5" tall and overweight. That is what I used to think until I started following Hua Hin City to away matches. The first time I saw a fleet of mini-buses turn up to transport us I was horrified. However, it was quite roomy for me, and I had plenty of room.

A few weeks ago, the most logical way to get to Don Muang Airport was a mini-bus. OK, there was no room for baggage, but the layout inside was just as roomy.

As for the driving, I've not had a bad mini-bus driver ...................... yet.

Must admit that on the odd occasions I get a minibus to BKK it's normally very early - ie 4.30-5.00am.
As there's not much traffic on the road until past Petchaburi the driver actually seems quite sane.
However, after queuing for the expressway, nearly all drivers have some sort of mental breakdown. They're insane, weaving in and out of traffic at a million miles an hour and tailgating at the same time. I'm on the edge of my seat. And these drivers are relatively OK. I've been down south and they are positively mad.
I go to golf fixtures on minibuses some times and those drivers are fine.
Maybe there's some financial incentive for the regular route drivers to arrive "on time".
I always reckon better late than never.

Thanks everybody for your advice. FYI, my guest took the minibus outside the optical shop on January 1 at 1pm, and arrived at the Victory monument around 3.15pm! The van was very crowded and he was the only foreigner, but there was not too much traffic, and they even took one toilet stop during the trip.

I usually just book a taxi from the airport and then let him drive me down, its more expensive then the bus and minibus but I just feel its not worth the hassle to sit in a crowded minibus just to save some money and risk my life
