Thanks, I'm not small either, and a terrible sleeper normally, but used to it.

Sounds like an adventure, thanks!!

Thistle... I'm pretty sure you've been misadvised.
There are, to my knowledge, no first class sleepers on this particular route.
It's also possible to book tickets well over 7 days in advance; I booked mine 3 weeks early last time.

How much were you quoted for this 'first class' ticket?
2nd Class air con tickets are around 990bt for an upper birth, and 1100bt for a lower.

Pleng,i was quoted 2654bht for two people sharing the compartment, the figure given was shown to me via an internet website, and not just given verbally. In addition,i was shown a photograph of what is supposed to be a first-class compartment.
I intend going along to the station in the coming days for confirmation, and will take a Thai national just to clarify that there has not be in miss-understanding in the translation of information.

Hi Thistle. Please do post an update after going to the station, as this is something I'd be more than happy to be proven wrong on - at that price it's certainly worth considering if I'm travelling with a companion next time.

Well in looking through the prices, and places, we decided Hong Kong. Not the cheapest, but reasonable as long as I can keep mrs m from shopping too much!!

Any suggestions for food, lodging, places to not miss?

Thanks All!!

I can't remember if Buksida did it but for me a bus trip over the hills of Hong Kong island to Stanley Bay and a walk around the market there (not for shopping but for the athmosphere) and a cold beverage or two in the Smuggler's Inn have always been near the top of my itinerary in HK.

Hotel rooms are expensive, especially on Hong Kong island side, and small. You should get to work on one of the hotel booking sites, and keep an eye on room sqft to avoid an unpleasant surprise. Pete
