Hotels in Chiang Mai

Post by lomuamart »

I've got some friends coming over in November on their first trip to Thailand. Looks like they'll be wanting to spend a week up north and then a week down here in HH.
I don't know Chiang Mai that well and am hoping I can get some suggestions for hotels. I've looked through previous threads and seen a number of reviews.
I reckon we'll only be in CM for a couple of days before heading off somewhere else. My friends are pretty adventurous and, like us, don't need 5 star comfort. A decently run, small family hotel somewhere central would be ideal. Air con will be a must, but we don't need a pool or any other frills.
Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks.

I've just checked out (30 minutes ago)of the BP Chiang Mai City Hotel - cost about £15/night. Big room, good breakfast, staff helpfull. However, Trip Advisor reviews stink - typical rival hotels doing a hatchet job. Even a free shuttle bus to the night market. Centrally located.

Despite the Trip Advisor hatchet job, which we read after booking, we've just had 4 good nights there.
