Travel in Siem Reap, Cambodia

Post by LEfant60 » Sat Oct 01, 2016 10:27 pm

Prior to my stay in Hua Hin, I will be visiting, for the first time, Siem Reap Cambodia to play golf and explore. Is there any advice out there for the "Do's and Don'ts?" I've read up on it and sounds great. It would be nice to get some feed back from people who have experienced it first hand. Thanks!

Went there a few years ago, and loved the place. Quite honestly, I can't think of any 'dont's'. A 'do' is obviously a visit to Angkor Wat. We went there during the hottest part of the day, and it was a lot less crowded than during the morning or evening. Another 'do', book trips from your hotel (you're a lot less likely to get ripped off). Have a great time - it's a fabulous place.

Great place! Make sure you hit the Angkor complex early in the morning to avoid the tour bus rush. Organise a Tuk Tuk or three days, and make sure you're at Angkor Wat for sunrise and head off from there.

Pub street in the evening to relax. Hit up the Foreign Correspondents Club if you feel like flash drinks and dinner. Temple Bar if you feel like people watching early in the night, or getting on the lash later on.

Some images from my last trip in 2013. Hanging to get back again.

Don't forget that the American Dollar is the standard currency. They do have a local currency but everyone wants dollars because their own currency keeps fluctuating. I am also pretty sure that you can't take a car over the border. Check this out if you intend to do that. There are several big casino's in no-mans-land between Thailand and Cambodia if you are interested. They offer nothing except gambling.
