New docking port for ferry service
New docking port for ferry service
The fishing pier between Cha Am and Hua Hin (about 7 k north of Hua Hin) is currently being upgraded to allow a ferry boat to land and pick up / drop off passengers. The ferry people apparently paid the local temple 2 million baht to allow this to happen. I saw the cranes out today getting the area ready. I presume in the very near future there will be a regular ferry service between Cha Am / Hua Hin and Pattaya.

HI there Jockey
Thanks for the update what's happening in Hua Hin. If I'm there in Hua Hin next month (a month late as I had planned it before!) I;m gonna take a good look @ the docking Pier in construction! if the Frerry service goes ahaed, which seems to be that way then a Fleet of High Speed catamarans would be needed to make the trip over to Pattaya in three hours and a half hours or less. I would imagine that they gonna use the the "Catalina Jet" type of high speed catamarans which can carry up to 450 Passengers at speeds of 35 knotts an hour and able to chop through 6 feet of waves.
I'm pretty sure those who initiated this Project had made their Homework. I'm looking forward to go on a day excursion to Pattaya and come back from that trip in the evenning without passing through Bangkok? your's the understudy! Prost Mahlzeit!!!

This subject seems to arise periodically.
Personally I doubt it will eventuate due to the Favorite Family down the road.
Any chance the pier could just be for local day trips?
If they were really serious about a Pattaya ferry service why wouldn't they locate the pier closer to HH near the pier restaurants?

Roppong - I started the post. What I can tell you is large cranes are already working in the area to allow a ferry boat business to operate. Anything other than that is specuation unless someone has more precise information as to the intentions of the service. What I can tell you is a large amount of money is being spent.Roppongi wrote:This subject seems to arise periodically.

why wouldn't they locate the pier closer to HH near the pier restaurants? - Logistics? Perhaps best answered by asking why don't they put an airport in the city centre! It would only take a 10 minute taxi ride into town so I don't think that would put passengers off. Some people actually live in Cha Am also.

If you look at Shaneofki's video about landing at Hua Hin, in the beginning there seems to be a jetty. Any idea what this one is?

As someone who frequently uses conventional and high speed ferries I would caution folk about getting too excited about the introduction of any high speed catamaran service.
On any reasonably lengthy trip in excess of an hour or so where there is much more than a light swell on the sea the high speed catamarans fully justify their nickname of “vomit cometsâ€

I have heard nothing from the Pattaya end confirming a new service so I guess it's a case of wait and sea (see)
jimbo says about the vomit comets, last year after leaving HH I went to Koh Tao. The sea from Chumphon was a bit choppy and several pax were sick, speed was reduced and I was quite surprised how bumpy the journey was.
The cabin was noisy and smelt of diesel to add to peoples woes.
Myself I just kept looking at the horizon so I was OK.

Catamarans
I used to use the high speed Catamarans in Hong Kong and Phills. They were excellent, fast, air-conditioned, clean, showed movies and served food and drink and good reclining seats. I would welcome them and certainly be a passenger.
But I can't see too many Pattaya people wanting to visit Soi Disappointment.

Re: Catamarans
The trash from Pattaya is quickly becomming a thing of the past. This place is going upscale due to the new airport and what appears to be the new visa regs thinning out the old timers living on a shoe string. Luxury condos and houses going up everywhere. It's becomming a whole new world over here. Stay tuned. Petesamlorsam wrote:I used to use the high speed Catamarans in Hong Kong and Phills. You must be wrong Sam.
