Snakes in the house and garden
Re: Snakes in the garden
It didn't happen then, sorry. I didn't have my camera switched on. Nasty dream though.

Funny how you and Kendo had the same dream.....Big Boy wrote:It didn't happen then, sorry. I didn't have my camera switched on. Nasty dream though.

Re: Snakes in the garden
No, my dream was twice as long as Kendo's - the snake was quite big as well

Yes, he's probably bragging to his mates that the truck driver was huge, but he still chased him off

I don't suppose it has occurred to you that the vendors may have been surprised that you actually stopped for a bloody great snake on the road. Especially a dangerous snake that must have been close to them! The food vendors also had a look of surprise on their faces so feel lucky to have seen it.
May you be in heaven half an hour before the devil know`s you`re dead!
Re: Snakes in the garden
Snake in my daughters second floor bathroom as we speak! Window closed so he must have gotten in through the very small water/rain drain slits. I had not idea that was even possible. Very long, brown but thin but not whip thin. Stay tuned, will try to get photos. Unfortunately I don't have a snake catcher device, but we will have tomorrow. I think this guy may end up dead unfortunatey
If water does get short I'm afraid they'll be all over the place in coming months.
What's worse my 10 year old daughter may never sleep in her room again. Pete

Here is the intruder, caught by a neighbor who does have a snake catching device, so no death today. More than a meter long and some kind of non-poisonous brown tree snake. We did find a space at the bottom where the Windsor windows meet in the middle when closed that's large enough to squeeze in, about the size of your pinky finger, and I guess these guys can squeeze as he was much thicker than that. Drama over.....daughter apprehensive about her room.....hopefully by tomorrow she'll be okay.

I've never seen one with a hooped head like that before - nice.

Re: Snakes in the garden
^ Looking at some reference, it could be a brown keel back rather than a tree snake. We have a lot of them around here but usually grey in colour. The wife is still in bits, she was scared badly many times when a kid and she flips out when she sees any, even behind glass! It will be well into tomorrow before she settles down.
This is snake mating season. I find nests each and every January in out flower and bush beds. My guess is this one is much bigger than other keel backs I've seen because she's pregnant...imo. Pete

I think it's one of these ... the head markings are very similar. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chrysopelea.
Re: Snakes in the garden
^ Could be I guess. Heavy jungle is only 5-6 meters away from where the upstairs bathroom exterior alcove and window is. Perhaps they can fly that far. Pete

Re: Snakes in the garden
Mrs BB caught this baby in our car port this morning, and released it into the jungle across the road. She reckons Pit Viper, but I have my doubts. Our rottweiller had a couple of Pit Vipers earlier in the year, and they didn't look like this one. Any ideas?
It was mooching around the water pump where we know quite a few frogs hang out.

Always thought a pit vipers head was more triangular.

Here's a blow up of it's head - there is a V there, so maybe a viper:
