Learn a craft, plan your exit strategy, write a book, learn an instrument, read a book, listen to music, watch some of those films you've always been meaning to watch but never gotten around to, eat, sleep, educate yourself in a subject, play some video games, harass your friends by sending them pointless messages, join an online dating service, go to the gym, go for a run, or exercise at home, have a shower, start a blog, look for a new job

Yes, at work at 07:00 on a Saturday morning and not in Thailand!

^ Same story for me, except i am in Thailand. At work at 07:00 this morning and will not finish until early evening. It really would be nice to have the time to get bored once in a while or even have the time to pursue some of my hobbies.....

No time to be bored here. Wish the days were 30 hours long to get everything accomplished I want to on a daily basis.
I do not believe it's up to Thailand to make me happy or not bored. It's up to me to be happy & active wherever I am.

Retirement is a state of mind...

I never intended to stop working at only 56, but there were no (local) jobs in insurance claims for me in England and I wasn't going to use up my savings looking for a company that wanted to emply a 56 year-old!

I never thought about the stigma of never working again until I stopped working and felt guilty about it...

I had 6 months in the UK on my own whilst I was arranging the move here - never spoke to a soul for 5 days a week.

Surely, it's easy to over eat/drink/be bored in ANY country (I read recently that 60% of Brits and Americans are overweight...)

I read a lot, cycle every other day, play guitar when I'm in the mood, watch football on TV. Also, I enjoy visiting HH and Cha Am peridically and of course there's always the Thai stuff to attend with Mrs C (weddings, funerals monkhood inductions, etc.).

Finally, I felt much healthier after 2 years here - sunshine and good food. Thai beer remains a national disgrace!

One thing people don't take into account is that... the smarter you are, the harder it is to keep yourself entertained. If you have a low IQ you'll be quite content just loafing about. A movie here and there. A post now and then. A beer once in a while.

Unfortunately, my IQ is incredibly high which makes it difficult for me to keep entertained given the quality of entertainment available.

Pleng's post was the best so far. I need to start indulging in musical instruments I think.

A beer once in a while.
Ah, this gives me hope that I have a high IQ, I have a beer quite regularly, not just once in a while. :D

Get real dude - no one has an exciting life in your late sixties and seventies…….unless you’re Donald Trump. Get ready to pass into your sweet afterlife, where all kinds of wholesome fun will be available for trillions of years.

You could try the triangle. I once played the bass drum in a military band, music is a doddle if you stick to instruments with one note!

Bored? My Mom used to say that boredom was a disease of the unintelligent and unimaginative. I've been here ten years (after 26 years on the tiny island of Saipan) and am never bored. I run out of time long before I run out of things to do.

Boredom is especially baffling in this day in age when you have such engaging entertainment at your fingertips. Books, music, video, all instantly available online. Learning resources abound. (Since I moved to Thailand I've spent a lot of time learning HTML, PHP, MySQL, bash shell scripting and more.)

Bored? Never.

I'm 32. I will find a way out at 60 as it is my duty, as a human, to do that. 'Dignitas' seems a nice option. The world simply can't sustain itself if ignorant old fogies decide to use up space into their 90's.

You have to look at the bigger picture...

,,,unfortunately, too many people think they serve a purpose.

Seriously good job GLCQ... You are really trying to fire up the old guys ... Nice one!!

However In all seriously if people are bored with the opportunities and challenges presented here in Thailand, they are either not aware or don't care to make changes that are necessary.

Maybe this is only my low IQ view.

Every morning that I awake here in Thailand I am faced with challenges both from work and normal day to day life.... These are the challenges that makes life worth while. May you live long enough and with a worthwhile life that will allow you to appreciate that life here ain't so bad... If you get off your arse!

Well, one of the "simple" things occupying me recently was to write my own webcam software to replace the horrible commercial application that I was using. I decided to do the whole thing using bash. The software I wrote grabs a frame from a USB webcam every few minutes, adds weather data downloaded from Weather Underground using their json API, and then uploads the photo to my website. The software also creates a timelapse movie from the grabbed frames and uploads that to my website.

I know, a simple pursuit for a simple mind, but I found it to be amusing.

(I"m not allowed to post a link to my website because it contains an ad for my wife's law firm and a link to her website.)
