Re: Big Dog Problem Down 114
My brain is like an Internet browser; 12 tabs are open and 5 of them are not responding, there's a GIF playing in an endless loop,... and where is that annoying music coming from?
Re: Sv: Re: Big Dog Problem Down 114
You have to be kidding. I've lived between 114 and 116 for ten years or more. When I moved here soi dogs were very rare and no problem at all. "Less this year than last!" NO WAY. Walking down from my house along Soi 1 to 112, the dogs are very very aggressive and have bit people from time to time. Even on a bike, they are snapping at your feet and the only way to avoid being bitten is to open the throttle.Ralfredo wrote:I don't agree. I currently live in that area and think there is less dogs now than last year. And what's the problem? They do no harm. I really don't understand.GLCQuantum wrote:Over the past 6 months, the soi dog issue down 112, 114 and 116 has become ridiculous.
I would welcome a way to rid this area of these pests. Unfortunately, many of the dogs have been 'owned' by locals who take no responsibility for their 'pets'.

A great business opportunity??
Surely an entrepreneurial Thai could set up a business selling frozen dog meat to Vietnam???

Re: Big Dog Problem Down 114
There is a thread on here somewhere that i started about the Soi Dogs in my Soi being rounded up.
We had a significant problem here (I say we, but I personally don't have a problem with Soi dogs - I talk nice to them, and they respect me). I would guess we had at least 30, and that number was increasing by 5 or 6 every few weeks.
It turns out (I didn't know at the time of the above thread) that somebody was having a problem selling their house. Prospective buyers were being put off by the amount of wild dogs. The lady in question simply phoned the number posted by laser above, and the deed was done. They got all but 2 of them - a puppy that was crushed under somebody's truck about a week later, and another that died of old age (loneliness?) about 2 months later.
The thing that has surprised me, is that people have said many times on here that such action is a waste of time because other strays will simply claim the territory. We've had no dogs claim our Soi yet.

Re: Big Dog Problem Down 114
My take is that it seems the expats/backpackers are more concerned for these cute little puppies then the Thai people or the issues these animals bring. Its all about save the soi dogs save and yada yada. While the Thai people let them run wild and say we cant afford the snip. Personally I think the Thai should clean there own house. I remember taking sunrise pictures at the beach and had some concerns due to a pack of very aggressive dogs came around. A cull is not a bad thing but try to convince a pet owner visiting from say the UK of that fact.
Re: Big Dog Problem Down 114
Soi dogs are nothing more than feral monsters.
My main gripes are that they are simply:
1. A public health issue
2. Aggressive (you are unable to go for a walk FFS)
3. An unpredictable physical danger to children
4. A constant threat to people who ride motorbikes
5. They are not what I call dogs...however, they do qualify as a noun (a thing).
6. A bloody nuisance and make too much noise in general.
No collar..... Bang!
Snarling and running around.... Bang!
Bites someone...... Bang!
Moron foreigners (and locals) that think the "lovely little fido" BS are just so annoying. Tell that to the kid who has been disfigured in a random attack or the person riding a motorbike and has broken his leg or something due to these hazards roaming freely around.
Cull the bloody lot of them...well, "cull" is a tame word to use in my opinion. Will never happen though for obvious reasons plus the roadside meatball/sausage sellers need their cheap supplies too. Lol....nice thought for all the street food lovers out there...and yes, it's true.

Spitfire, whilst these dogs can be a problem I never experienced any of the things you suggested. Just carry a stick, you do not even have to use it.
You would be better of directing your anger at the cause. These dogs are abandoned used to be someones pet, or the descendants of. Also do not just blame the Thais I have seen farangs letting the dogs roam. I have worked rescuing and rehoming these dogs. We always used to get the neutered.

OK Lindos, no trolling from you please. I understand you are a Dawn supporter and all Fidos are swell. Sorry mate, but you have a conflict of interests on this one man.
Nice surprise showing on this topic (even if not really unexpected)...dug you out I guess...lol.

Spitfire I do not regard you as a pratt, but you make assumptions its nothing to do with Dawn, it is my own personal view.
I do not have a conflict of interests, you disagree with me, we are entitled to voice our opinions.

Re: Big Dog Problem Down 114
Of course this problem is not one just in Thailand. I have lived in many ( third world) countries and such dogs roam about over Africa and the Middle East.
I walk past such dogs every day and I carry a hardwood stick about I mtre long and have no trouble at all, and indeed like all dogs they would like some affection, which I try to give.
The problem should be solved by the 'Authorities ' but except by early morning culling in one country ( which I do not agree with ) I did not see anywhere else trying to solve the problem.

Re: Big Dog Problem Down 114
I am a dog lover, and personally couldn't do them any harm, but I can also understand the views of those who don't.
Only last night walking the dogs on the beach, a Thai couple in front of us literally froze when they saw our dogs. I had to re-assure them that they were with my son and I, and would do them no harm. People can't help such fear - I am the same with wasps.
The mechanism is there for those who dislike dogs to do something about it. Rectification is only a phone call away (phone number provided in this thread). I wonder if the OP or any other residents have actually taken that advice on board and requested a problem area cleared. If you have, please share your experience with us.
From what I've seen, the city dog team are very good at what they do. Our Soi has been virtually Soi Dog free ever since.
Of course, what happens to the animals after they've been cleared is another story.
