Animal abuse Thailand

Post by Ginjaninja »

Hi Folks,
Does anyone know if there is a contact for an authority in Thailand that deals with animal abuse?
There is a horse near my condo in Khao Takiab that is left in the sun all day with little water. We took him some water this morning and he is suffering from terrible fly irritation. Spent over 30mins trying to swat them but they keep coming in hoards.
Apologies if this has been covered before.
Cheers,
GN.

If you find one, let us know. We've had a horse tethered outside of our house in very similar conditions for about a year now. No shelter from the sun or rain, and he often knocks his meagre bucket of water over.

The worst bit is 2 of our dogs love the perfume from it's sh*t, and are subjected to several baths a day sometimes.

This seems to be more common than I thought. There is a horse tethered in the field behind my house. No shade, water etc. Obviously unhappy from the noise it makes. Have taken water on several occasions. I was thinking of reporting it to the Tessabahn. Not sure if they'd be the authority to go to.

Hi guys,

There is the TSPCA (Thai Society for the Prevention of Animal Cruelty) based in BKK.

http://www.thaispca.com/en/index.php

Not sure if they are willing or able to help, but it is worth a shot.....

Cheers,
B.

Sounds like the recently passed animal welfare laws should apply in these cases. Maybe ThaiSPCA.org can advise?

Thanks Blacky. I have sent them an email.
Tried the Vets school behind Takiab but the email on their website was rejected.

Take some photos and have your significant others post them on FB with a description of the problem. That was done over where I am by some Thai woman and all hell broke loose in response. Authorities took care of the hurting animals and put the hurt on the people responsible in the form of fines and other. They're not around any longer. FB does work well here in matters such as this. Great to see people caring about animal wellfare :thumb: thumbs up to you all. On my travels, I've seen some terrible sights in this regard - especially donkeys and in China!! :banghead:

Might be worth contacting this place in Cha-am: https://www.wfft.org/

As much as Edwin Wiek would like to I doubt that he can do much more than tell you who to contact. People who treat animals like has been posted need to be shot! Buddhist hypocrites. :guns:

FYI, Edwin Weik has a regular show on Discovery Asia now about the work he and his organization does. It's not a weekly schedule but time to time. The title of the show escapes me at the moment. TRUE channel 555. Pete

EDIT: Come to think of it, it was very heavily advertised when it started to air. However, recently I haven't seen a show or mention of the show on Channel 555 for 2 months or so. It was not kind at all to Thai authorities or what happens here with animals so very possible the gov got Discovery to drop it from Thai viewing.

As a general observation, most locals only seem to care for dogs and the rest of the animal world is fair game. They recently past a law protecting dogs (nothing else) so that you can't do sweet FA against them even if you are attacked.

Oh, as an aside, they still make street sausages and meatballs out of dogs here, just don't hear much about it these days as the sensitivities of some would get the better of them...but is an alive and well practice, not just the Chinese.

The paradoxical dichotomy (hypocrisy) of it all is noteworthy.

Not just dogs. But it's a typical Thai law - full of holes. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Preventio ... elfare_Act

I haven't had personal experience of this horse mistreatment, but those who have might ask animalsasia.org if they have any horse action program in Thailand? If it's big enough they may do. They are very effective in other areas (like closing bear bile farms) right across Asia. I have huge respect for their effectiveness. If it's too small scale for them they may have some ideas of the channels to follow. Just a thought.
