Why would reclaimed land be a problem BB? Huge swathes of Holland and Singapore, to mention just a couple of the many, are built on reclaimed land.

I always think more liable to subsidence i.e. it's not been left to settle very long. Then again, I know very little about such things. I'll never forget that condo on the way to Cha-Am when I did my beach walks a couple of years ago - I'd be afraid something similar would happen.
I remember when they filled in an old railway embankment at the back of my house in Plymouth - they had to let it settle for 10 years before they built on it, and that started with a solid base.
