VISA EXTENSION

Post by maimeepom »

Can you obtain a Visa extension in Hua HIn?
If so, where?
Although I have passed through H.H. many times over the last 30 years,
I have never heard anybody mention it.
Thanks in advance.

no.
nearest is bkk or Ranong/Kaw Thawng, Myanmar...also known as Victoria Point but the latter is not a place to visit right now for obvious reasons......
i've heard there is border crossing point with Myanmar, about an hour south of HH i think nr Thap Sakae but have never been and not sure if it is true

Assuming your on a tourist visa, Neil is correct - you can't do this in HH.
Despit the devastation down south, Ranong is open and remember, you won't need to exit to Burma for the extension. Just pay 1,900 and get the extra 30 days.
There is a border crossing near Prachuapkirikhan, but only for Thais and Burmese. Don't think they do extensions either. Pretty basic from what I've heard.

The immigration office just outside of Prachuapkirikan does give visa extensions, at least it did until the end of 2003.

I extended my 30 days stamp on arrival there a few times in 2003, and am sure you can get the 1 month extension as well.
I got to know the Chief immigration officer there quite well and got extensions of 15 days when only 10 day extensions were being given in Suan Phlu - Bangkok.

The immigration office is Singh Khon. Drive through Prachuap on the main road and U-turn at the 7 km marker. Drive back about 4 km aand turn left at a building with Thai flags and other yellow flags. At the next fork go left and keep going for about 8 km and turn right at the T- JUNCTION.
Just when you think you are totally lost you will see the immigration office set back from the road on the right hand side.
