Thai passport renewal in Surat Thani

Post by buksida »

Little known to many there is a Thai passport office in Surat Thani so for those in the south it makes more sense than the long haul to Bangkok. Buksi Jr needed his passport renewed so I thought I'd take the trip down.

Requirements:
Old passport (if there is one)
Tabien baht with child's name on
Thai birth certificate
Mothers ID card
Fathers passport
Both parents present to sign

Cost: 1,060 (includes postage within 7 days)

The additional bonus is that the entire process took 15 minutes since they had more staff than applicants! A bit annoying that it was an 8 hour round trip, costing more in gas than the actual passport, for a two-second signature but that's Thai bureaucracy for you.

It is easy to find, as you come into town from the north, cross the river, turn left and head for the city, after about 3km look for the huge PTT sign, its next to that. Tel: 077-274940/2/3
