Apart from Chaeng Watana I believe you no longer have an option.Dannie Boy wrote:So would you avoid Pink Lao?Big Boy wrote:Not deliberatelyNereus wrote:Big Boy went to Pink Lao(sp), despite other advice.

In December they were processing Thai passports in the centre of town again for a week in that government office on the opposite corner to the Police station but I don't know how often it happens.

I don't know - I went at the height of the troubles, and queues were huge.Dannie Boy wrote:So would you avoid Pink Lao?Big Boy wrote:Not deliberatelyNereus wrote:Big Boy went to Pink Lao(sp), despite other advice.
At the time, buksida was advising travelling South, which on paper looked horrendous, but given the waiting times we experienced it might have been a better option with hindsight. buksi......................?

They were, but I think it was for a week only.

Thai passport renewal in Surat Thani took about 40 minutes.

Last time I was at the Pinklao office it took no time at all (about a year ago), just the usual reams of papers required and a new photo (taken there by officials). The building has a multi-storey car park attached and the fifth/sixth floor was deserted. They post the passports out to your home address in a couple of days.
When I was there a good few years ago (when it was in the basement) it was a two day affair, deposit reams of paper on day-1, collect passport on day-2.

Yes, I was just passing by and I asked my partner what was happening as it looked like an election or something and she said you could apply for a passport until the end of the week. Perhaps it's worth popping in and asking them how often it happens.Big Boy wrote:They were, but I think it was for a week only.

Just an update to this - we called into the municipality office in HH on Wednesday and asked the lady at the information desk if she knew if/when the mobile passport section would be visiting "no idea, you have to call passport office in Bangkok". My wife called them and all they could advise was that they have no dates agreed to provide a mobile service at HH or Prachuab Kiri Khan, so it's off to Bangkok we go, trying the Pink Lao office. I'll post how we get on once we've been there.Dannie Boy wrote:That's our plan, we are passing by on Wednesday so will stop and ask - fingers crossedSTEVE G wrote:Yes, I was just passing by and I asked my partner what was happening as it looked like an election or something and she said you could apply for a passport until the end of the week. Re: New passport for Thai in HH or Prachuap?
We went to the Pink Lao (actually the road signs call it Pin Klao) and other than catching up with the rush hour traffic as we got close, it was a good journey in taking about 3 hours and arriving about 9.15. My wife presented her Thai ID and was given a form to complete, have her height taken and wait to be called - couldn't have taken much more than 5 minutes and the processing (photo and finger printing) took 15-20 minutes, so less than 30 minutes in total. Don't know how this compares to how long it takes at Bang Na, but would certainly recommend this venue - mind you by the time we left, there was a fairly long queue forming to register, so would recommend getting there by 9.00am if you can.

Between September 19 and 23 Thais can renew passports in Prachuab. Shame it isnt permanent.

For FOUR days ------- WHY?
Incidentally, the waiting time at Laksi was less than half an hour and the journey back to HH was outside the city traffic.
Definitely the best option for people living in this direction.
